We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney St. Amant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to be an esthetician because I’ve struggled with my skin my whole life. I was bullied in school for having rosacea, and that destroyed my confidence. Being an esthetician, I get to help others feel beautiful in their own skin. I encourage everyone to truly learn their skin and how to care for it, embrace it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
During high school, I struggled to figure out what I wanted to do with my life afterwards. It wasn’t until I sat down with my family and talked about the things I love. I love skincare, makeup, making people feel good about themselves. That’s when I knew I wanted to be an esthetician. I went to Aveda Fredrick’s Institute Cincinnati for my schooling. I studied hard, I made sure I was always on time, and I treated it like a job and not schooling. This landed me on the honor roll, I had perfect attendance, and I was encouraged to get into an educator position.
I ended up getting a job in a spa and was asked to attend Aveda’s job fair, to encourage others to keep pursuing their dreams. To be asked to come back to where this all started, to encourage others, was so heartwarming. I felt as if I had “made it”.
I ended up having to move around a lot, so my esthetician profession was put on hold. Now I’m working on rebranding myself and getting back into the swing of things.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I would definitely go to Garden of The Gods, I would show her around Manitou Springs. She and I would definitely try to find a punk rock/emo concert to go to, Blink 182 is my favorite band. We also would probably end up getting tattoos! We are both very “go with the flow” kind of people, wherever the road takes us!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my mom, my step-mom, and my older sister for always pushing me to try new things and take risks. I wouldn’t have the confidence I do now, without them.
