We had the good fortune of connecting with Creatress Sarai Mora and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Creatress, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process when starting my own business was wanting to create a lifestyle on my terms. After getting laid off from a job at the start of the pandemic I realized job security was a myth of the past in this new world. I decided to actually try to build a business around my passion which I studied in school; art! I knew regardless of how long it took to be a viable means of living it would be worth every minute and my heart would be at ease. When I learned about NFTs and the royalties they allowed artists to obtain long after the initial sale of each work I knew this was a technology I wanted to learn and implement in my business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m one of the only VR Performance Artists in the world, helping pioneer this new artform that crosses realities and brings audiences into a virtual studio where I create 3D artworks live. There is a music element that leads to dance, and improvised art creation that is influenced by the energy of everyone in the room.

I had to invest a lot of my own resources and time to take on performance opportunities for months, I I volunteered my time and paid for my travel for the first about 15 performances I did before I started getting properly booked and paid to do VR Performances. As a mom, it wasn’t easy to do, but I knew it was an important investment and I truly enjoyed the process and the performative aspects of the events. I still enjoy performing but it feels so much better to be valued for my talent and efforts now.

The artworks I create are also sold after the performances as NFTs that come with an augmented reality asset that can be used by collectors to virtually place the sculptures in their environment and create their own photos and videos with it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite spots in the city is meow wolf which is full of different spaces each with a different theme you can get lost exploring in!

One of the best events of the year I would recommend is ETH Denver which brings together the crypto curious and experts from around the world; they always plan fun afterparties at sweet venues like wings over the rockies!

You can’t miss the Red Rocks amphitheater where I’m hoping to perform alongside live musicians sometime soon!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dr. Bee Thomas has been incredibly supportive and instrumental in my success as my mentor in business! Her book paired with her live mentorship sessions and sage advice throughout my journey over the past few years has helped me achieve the goals I’ve set for myself.
