We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Heaven Barrix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal Heaven, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to run my own business. It was just a matter of choosing what kind of business to run. After living with so many artists my entire life, while being one myself. I came to the conclusion that until I was able to open my own establishment, I would start my own online/travelling Prismatic Crystal Creations business. This business allows me to share my whimsical creations while working alongside other artists that crave to share their works with the world. Spreading creativity, and providing a platform for artists of all kinds to share thier specialized artistic talents is my overall goal.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is very whimsical and I’ve always adored fantasy. I started really developing my love for this sort of business by doing costume design and makeup artistry. As my artistic style has developed over the years, I’ve come to find that I cannot stick with one art form which I believe sets me apart. I currently am creating paintings, prints, earrings, light up mushroom hats, handcrafted fantasy mirrors, and the creations won’t stop there. Yet, my style has typically stayed in a world of fantasy or told a story. For example, most of my prints are characters for my future book that will feature all of my prints, that I’ve been working on for 3 years now. It hasn’t been easy in this economy running my own business and working 2 jobs. But the biggest lesson I’ve learned is mastering time management and holding boundaries to your day job in providing time for my personal dreams and endeavors. Everyday I try to find time to dedicate to my dreams in hopes that when my dreams come true, I can in turn provide many other creators with the ability to be successful with there artistic dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I spend a lot of the summer traveling across Colorado for Art Fairs. That being said, there any many amazing sights to see. Starting in Denver, Meowwolf Convergence Station is a must see interactive art experience. For shopping, I highly recommend going to the giant purple castle on Broadway, known as The Wizards Chest, guaranteed to put a smile on any person’s face. For night life, I recommend going to Milk for a unique and fun night at the club. Heading west I always stop in Glenwood Springs for a dip in Iron Mountain Hot Springs. While you’re there stop for a cup of coffee at Deja Brew or a scoop of ice cream at Kaleidoscoops. Lastly, I spend a ton of time hanging out or floating in the Colorado River which is located along I-70 through most of the Western Slope. That where you can always find beautiful scenery and wildlife.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could attribute so many people and places to my success. Every artist I’ve met has inspired me in their own way, but there are a couple who truly shaped who I am as an artist. First being my mother, who runs Heavenstar Creations & Wolfstar Apothecary. My entire life I’ve watched her run her own business, travel to art fairs, and work incredibly hard to share her unique creations with the world. While encouraging my sibling The Grey Raven & I to share our art alongside hers. Senor Trash also helped me by always providing me with opportunities and encouragement to share my creations, and to never stop trying. Lastly, Meowwolf inspired me by showing me an example of artists coming together to create something magical. Someday I would hope to have an establishment inspired by Meowwolf where me and the many artists I know, can create an interactive journey to sell our creations through.
