We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Pfeffer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cynthia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have several friends in their 40’s getting back into the dating scene. One friend in particular was having a hard time meeting someone on the dating apps. Half the time the people on there weren’t even real. I remember in the late 90’s/early 2000’s that speed dating was really popular. When we tried to see if there were any events that catered to people in their 40’s we couldn’t really find any, so the lightbulb went off in my mind that there might be an untapped market of people looking to try this different way of dating. And that’s how Figs & Dates – Speed Dating Events was born!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My first Figs & Dates Speed Dating Event was this past April, and the energy of that event made me feel like I had stumbled upon my calling. Not everyone wants to pursue a romantic relationship, but I feel like you can safely say that when you do find yourself connecting with another person it can be life-changing. I love providing one more avenue for people to connect with others. I’m proud of building this business from the ground up. Most people think I’m a franchise or part of a big corporation, but it’s just me (and my assistant) running the show. Sometimes I feel like I have to pinch myself at an event because I can’t believe I’m actually seeing my business come to life. And I’ve met so many awesome people through these events. It’s been wonderful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things to do with friends is hit up Denver around 11:00am for brunch. I’m a huge fan of Watercourse. Pancakes, hash browns, mimosas, and all that yummy brunch food makes me so happy, haha. And then after that I love seeing where the day takes us. I’m a huge sucker for any kind of live music, so checking out local bands or even attending a concert at the Red Rocks would be perfection. You can’t go wrong with drinks on top of El Tejano’s rooftop overlooking Coors Field. I’m a huge foodie so another meal is always in store.

Blue Sushi Sake Grill has the most amazing rolls I’ve ever had! I’ve never a person who doesn’t fall in love with a Cow Girl roll from Blue Sushi! Finishing up the evening at the View House is always a good time. They have a fun ambiance and a DJ some nights. I love dancing, so get me near any kind of music and I’ll be in heaven!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate this shoutout to my Dad, who always believes in me and encourages all of my ideas!
