Meet Allison | Owner / Mobile Oil Change Technician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Allison, how do you think about risk?
Interestingly enough my risk tolerance has changed significantly over the years. I used to be incredibly risk averse, staying away from anything that was non-traditional or didn’t have a well-established path to success. At a certain point, I realized that many of these paths were not only unsatisfying, but would never help me achieve the real change and value I wanted to bring to my career and clients. So I made one of my biggest leaps of faith and largest risks in my life and started a business completely outside of the only industry I’ve ever known and started my mobile oil change business in the automotive field – something I had no prior experience in professionally. These days I would say taking the right high-risk move is one of the only ways to truly find what fits and feeds your soul the most.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In the beginning, I was one of the only ones out there with this concept of mobile oil changes, and it was advantageous due to lack of competition. As time has gone on, plenty of competitors have shown up. What continues to set me apart I believe is my honesty and transparency in everything I do – no hidden fees, or surprise bills, or pretend add-ons you don’t need. But beyond that, I treat my vehicles and clients as I did my patients in healthcare. To the same level of detail and care as I would a patient, the same education given as to what was going on with their car and how to address any concerns, and also compassion and empathy to help build trust and rapport with my clients. I take pride in the time and quality service we offer, while still building a relationship with the client. It isn’t just an “oil change” to us, it is a friend we are helping take one more thing off their plate.
Starting a new business is never easy, especially one without a “cookie cutter” path to success. There was so much trial and error, figuring out pricing and knowing sometimes I was losing money but taking care of someone, learning all of the hurdles to taking my business mobile and what tools to have to get the job done. And now, how to build that model but also provide a great work environment and lifestyle to others. It is a continual evolution – every time you think you’ve got it all figured out a new challenge appears, but you never give up! My favorite thing about what I do is when I get the “I had no idea this existed and you just made my day!!” comments. As much as I love working on cars, my favorite thing about my business is I helped out someone and made their life easier and brought a small amount of happiness knowing their car was well taken care of and their life never had to slow down. It is amazing to be able to have such a positive impact!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is so hard because there are so many amazing things to do in, and around, Denver depending on the mood! I am a mountain junkie and a big time car lover, so most likely I would bring my friend on a fun road trip out to Buena Vista to cruise some fun mountain roads, see the beautiful mountains, and explore the small mountain towns of Buena Vista and Salida. Maybe hit a vineyard tour and some white water rafting, check out the historic downtown areas there, explore some fun small hikes in the foothills, and finish with a little paddleboarding out by Twin Lakes and hot springs to relax after!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so very many people that helped me along the way. My family who may roll their eyes at how often I am always working, but support and love me anyway. My friends, who have learned that I may have to cancel last second to go throw on the jumpsuit and change oil, and still hang around with words of encouragement. My employees, who never stop having faith in my concept and ability to grow this and provide a great work environment for them. Every business is built on the back of these amazing, and wonderful people supporting that person with the ‘crazy idea’!
