We had the good fortune of connecting with DAngelo Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DAngelo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue my career in music due to the fact that music has always played a key role in my life. Music is everywhere, whether you listen to the radio, plug in your headphones to silent the outside world, or even hearing the birds sing in the morning. I wanted to make an impact in the music industry in my own way. I wanna be the artist someone can press play when they’re feeling sad, need motivation, or even to get the party a bit more hyped! Music is also my way of expressing my emotions through the sounds that are felt by the heart and soul.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a 23 year old Rapper/Hip Hop Artist from Greeley Colorado! I was born in raised in a city where music hasn’t really made much of an outbreak, my goal was to be the first Artist to shine a light on the city to give the world a new location to find music. What sets me apart from others is that I just be myself and never let anything or anyone change me. Despite how people view me from a distance, I’m always gonna be the nicest person you ever met in person. I’m mostly proud of the amazing support and the accolades I’ve achieved in such a short amount of time. Becoming the best musician in my city 3 years in a row, best in Northern Co 2 years in a row, etc has really kept me pushing towards my dreams. The journey to get where I’m at definitely wasn’t easy, but the journey still hasn’t ended! The hardest challenges I dealt with along the way was always feeling rushed to put music out and trying to stay consistent with fans. I even lost family members and friends who passed away too soon which led to me having a mental shutdown from social media. The lessons I’ve learned along the way was to always keep going forward despite how hard of a road its been. All the time and money invested into my career would be a waste if I didn’t keep going. I also do it for the ones that support me even if I don’t feel comfortable. I want the world to know that despite coming from a small city, getting neglected as a child, and having no parents to support me, that no dream was ever too big for me to achieve. I would love to motivate others that their dreams can also come true no matter how tough the journey is.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I definitely would love to show them the city of Fort Collins! Fort Collins has always showed support to musicians of all genres and backgrounds. In fact, Fort Collins is the first City to put me on a show and get me on the radio multiple times during the early stages of my career! The Museum of Discovery, The Music District, and Downtown Foco is the spot for the best views and entertainment. My favorite place to stop by is FocoDoco, a friendly donut shop I stop by to refresh my mind from the strolls I take in downtown Foco. (Their Lavender Tea definitely is worth going for). I believe there’s about over 30 music venues in Foco, and about 60+ restaurants so there’s so much to do and see. Fort Collins will always have my heart even though Greeley is my hometown.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely would love to shoutout the Music By Masses crew and their hardwork. The amount of love they show to local & distant musicians is amazing! They’ve created their own music platform in which artists can submit a song and the listeners get to vote for their personal favorite! Better yet, they pay the winners among the top 10 highest voted and even give the top 5 artists a show opportunity for winning the competition! Manley & Gabe are the Founders of the app so I would definitely check them out if you’re a musician or even someone who loves music.
