We had the good fortune of connecting with Search Of X and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Search Of X, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music was my first love. when I was growing up I didn’t have a lot of friends and I always found my peace in music. When I was about 13 I started to express myself through writing and realized it was something I was good at. Ever since then I’ve taken my pain and my struggles and translated them through music in a way that others can relate to. I do this to help others realize they are not alone in hopes to make my corner of the world a better place.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My whole thing is that I don’t pin myself down as 1 style of music. I call myself “The Man without a genre” for a reason. I appreciate all styles and sounds and feel each of them have their place in the world. My goal as an artists is to have each song have a different inspiration and a different sound than anything else I have put out. I want to take each genre that I love and out my own spin on it.

I have learned so much on this path. I did music full time from 2009-2013 and I quickly realized how difficult this path would be. With that said, the lessons about marketing yourself, being a living brand, and perseverance have been amazing. Music has been the most challenging career I have taken on, but that process has taught me so much about myself and has allowed me to express those struggles through my writing.

I’m excited to continue to grow my brand and to meet more amazing people along the way. I feel my journey has just begun.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, we would be hitting up open mics every night that we could. The Westside Barrelhouse, Bar K, and the Detour lounge just to name a few. We would definitely be going to Garden of The Gods because its beautiful there, The springs Climbing Gym is an excellent indoor rock climbing spot, Ute Valley Park as well because you could spend hours just walking around taking it all in, and I know this technically a cheat, but the Manitou Incline has always been something I wanted to do with somebody! I would also explore more of the downtown scene as I have yet to really get out that way. There is so much to do here and since I am fairly new to the area, I have yet to do it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people to thank, My parents are the top of that list though. My father had an entrepreneurial spirit and I learned so much from him. Without him i wouldn’t have believed I could do this. My mother talked me out of college as she knew music was my goal, so i ended up doing music full time out of high school instead, which without her my life could have turned out way different.

Daniel Brown for encouraging me to explore my voice and not just do hip hip. Piercing The Darkness for giving me my first opportunities on a stage. Dominique for giving me my first opportunities when i cam back to music here in the Springs. there are honestly too many to even list, I’ve probably listed too many already haha
