We had the good fortune of connecting with Dante’ Sell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dante’, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This was more of an idea others had because I would talk about football so much. They would always say “oh you have a nice voice for video” or “you have a lot of knowledge on football”. Then I started an audio only podcast called “The Handoff” with a Co-Worker. We did 2 episodes as a “test” and then we asked another co-worker to join us and we rebranded to “Go For 2 Podcast”. We did this for about 1-year and started to venture into video live streaming. Since I have a graphic arts background this was a great move and then again we took a planning period of 3 months away from podcasting and rebranded to “East Coast Gridiron” got our LLC and took Podcasting off of what we did because we wanted to be more of a media group that did livestreaming, podcasting and football media than just podcasting as a whole.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a telephony engineer in my day to day life. I’ve got into my career by just plain ole’ hard work! Even starting East Coast Gridiron. I get about 4-5 hours of sleep everyday just making sure videos are edited and graphics are made and the group is organized. I have the mentality is that no one will outwork me ever and I will be damned if anyone that is part of this group thinks that I don’t put the work in. I lead by example and I’m cut from the cloth that if there is work to be done, you finish it no matter what sacrifices you have to make. There are 6 members apart of ECG, and we’ve had others in the past that we didn’t meet eye 2 eye. One of the challenges having people leave is getting discouraged and thinking that things are being done the wrong way. I had to come to grips that attrition happens and that some people will not fit in and that’s ok. I always go back to, how hard did I work to get us here and did I make sure to make my group the spotlight which I have felt I’ve giving them every opportunity to grow. If I’ve done those things, I can sleep well at night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Don and I were part of the original members dating back to the Go For 2 Podcast. He’s been our backbone not only data and analytically but he’s been our biggest supporter. He’s not able to do as many shows as he has wanted to because of him taking care of his family that has not been in the best health. Financially he’s also been able to help us get to events we’ve done over the years as well. I’ve known him for 10 years and he’s definitely been a big brother figure to me for sure.
