We had the good fortune of connecting with Denton Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denton, what do you attribute your success to?
Our original music helps stand us stand out in the music scene. We really try to limit how many covers we play and put a huge focus on developing our original sound that makes us unique. While our hard work at practice has helped us develop our unique sound our success is largely due to the community of friends, fans and family we have around us. We call them our herd and without the support of our herd we would be nothing. Having original music, a unique sound and a ton of support from our herd is everything.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We call our music Soul-Grass, but defining music and art and coming up with a term that describes it is one of the hardest things to do. Having played in bands for over 16 years I do know without a doubt we have a very unique sound that stands out amongst other bands playing acoustic and bluegrass music. Being in a band is never easy and our location of Steamboat Springs can present challenges for traveling to other towns and touring. Tryin to make everything work with everyone’s personal lives is always a challenge but the support of our fans makes it all worth it. I’m extremely proud of the amount of practice and dedication everyone in the band has put in to this project. We never stopped for a second during the covid shut down and came out better and stronger and more connected than ever before and it’s evident in the music.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You can’t visit Steamboat Springs without making a stop at The Old Town Pub. This is where all the locals go to see live music, or catch up on what’s going on in town. Sean Regan is who runs the bar is one of the most genuine humans you will ever meet. My favorite activity in Steamboat is floating Yampa River. Get on a raft, kayak, paddle board or tube and have a blast. If being on the water isn’t your thing you can grab a drink at Sunpies and watch people float by all day while listening to the sound of the waves. I encourage anyone visiting Steamboat to get outside and experience the beauty of our surrounding environment and take a dip in some Hotsprings before you leave.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We wouldn’t be anything without the the support of our community in Steamboat Springs where we live. Sean Regan and the great people of The Old Town Pub have been supporting us and helping us since day one and we are eternally grateful.
