We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon Hansen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dillon, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The first 3 years were sacrificed for the business. Open 7 days per week, 365 days per year, our weekends, holidays, and vacations all took a backseat to NCV. We put all our time, money, and energy into growing the company and making it sustainable.

In the past few years, with growth in the organization, we’ve had the ability to hire exceptional team members. Our work/life balance has improved drastically and we now have regular days off, which was inconceivable years ago. This allows us to take a step back from the grind to really evaluate our business and ensure we’re moving in the right direction.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Native Campervans is a Campervan Rental Company HQ in Denver, Colorado with offices in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas & Los Angeles. Equipped with comfortable beds, fully-stocked kitchenettes and convertible living rooms, we’ve included all the essentials to venture through the Rocky Mountains and beyond. Our fleet of Campervans are available for short or long-term rentals so you can enjoy Vanlife at your own pace.

I feel the most important factor behind our success is being adaptable. Adaptable to market conditions, trends, and input from others. You can’t possibly know everything and believe the original charted course will be uninterrupted. That and high-risk tolerance is needed when starting any business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am biased and lived in the Highlands for 10 years, but I genuinely believe it’s the best area in Denver.

My favorites in the hood are:

Pizza and Beers at Hops & Pie
Tacos and Margs at El Camino
Breakfast at Javier’s
Best bookstore at BookBar
Beers at Call to Arms
Outdoor Gear at Feral
Late night at Atomic Cowboy

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Professionally, the knowledge and insight I gained from the book E-Myth was instrumental in our early days. It stressed some of the common errors in starting a business that didn’t rely on having strong systems in place. It’s something we’re always putting at the forefront of our business.

I owe everything to my wife, Julie. Anyone who has started a company knows that their partner inadvertently becomes their biggest supporter, therapist, and confidant. My business partner and best friend, Jon Moran. And of course my family, friends, colleagues, and pup, Harper.
