We had the good fortune of connecting with Dionisia Hatzis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dionisia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After decades of working in corporate America, I honestly had no choice but to leave and start working for myself. I felt my spirit dying under the fluorescent lights of cubicle life.
I’ve always had a deep desire to align my professional life with my personal life, which is devoted to creativity, movement, spirituality and community-building — and I realized that I could channel those into something meaningful. There’s always been a lingering question I’ve asked myself, “How am I helping the world outside of myself with this work?” and none of my office jobs satiated that need.
So, after decades of trying, I’m finally at a point in which my personal and professional life is not only a true expression of who I am, but also uplifts and supports others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a somatic expression facilitator/coach and a priestess devoted to the Divine Feminine.
I birthed SOMA Writing about 10 years ago, which fuses movement and dance, somatic practices, breath work, guided visualization and creative expression through the written word. I trained as a somatic coach through The Embody Lab and I (unofficially) trained as a dancer on the dance floors of New York City, London and Burning Man, as a bonafide club kid. I have always been the first to get on the dance floor and the last to leave! Both of these practices have literally kept me alive.
Dance and words have provided me a platform for my creative expression. I’ve utilized both to process all the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations of life. They’ve also provided me with the confidence to BE in my own skin and to express my words. And now I have the great fortune to support OTHERS in their discovery and expressions of themselves. It is life-affirming!
I’m of Greek descent, so I’ve loved this word for a long time. Soma. We don’t have an exact word in the English language that translates. But it’s essentially “the body living in its wholeness.” Isn’t that beautiful? The soma refers to ALL parts of ourselves, including the seen and the unseen — and I truly believe that it’s so important for us to be in resonance with our inner and outer landscape, as we move through the world and as we relate with others.
Deeply passionate about the priestess path, which I have been on for ~15 years, I’ve more recently taken a vow to make this my life’s mission. Over the past three years, I’ve been steeped in the practice of the Way of the Rose, guided by Mary Magdalene. Working with energy medicine as a Reiki Master and with an avid folk herbalism practice, I’ve been finding so many congruencies between all the work that I’ve been doing and how I can be of service to the larger community – as a beacon of Love and in devotion to the Divine Feminine. I absolutely love hosting gatherings, ceremonies and circles for all humans, especially women. We are living in a time now in which the Divine Feminine is rising, and will continue to rise, so I am emboldened by these times of waking up, as a way to bring harmony between the masculine and the feminine. One cannot exist without the other. And it must begin with ourselves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Embody Lab — for bringing together the best of the best teachers in the somatics space. The teachings I’ve received from these programs has been absolutely invaluable, and they price their programs affordably to make it accessible for many who would otherwise be unable to afford this type of education.
Rosa Mystica – created by my beloved teachers and mentors Elayne Kalila and Diana Dubrow — for cultivating the space to transmit modern ancient wisdom.
Meggan Patterson, feminist theologian and author of “Mary Magdalene Revealed”. This was the first book I read about Mary Magdalene and it’s the one I always suggest to those who are curious about diving into Magdalene consciousness. She also has an extremely affordable membership group, called the House of Mary Magdalene, with monthly sermons that I find absolutely fascinating.
