We had the good fortune of connecting with Dora & Lemar Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dora & Lemar, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Deciding to work with our significant other. Choosing to go into business with your life partner can certainly come with it’s own set of challenges, but over the years, we’ve learned and grown through these challenges, and contribute a lot of our success to them. Leaning on each others strengths, learning from one another, and realizing that communication is key in both our personal and professional lives, are just a few examples of how this decision has contributed to our overall success. Few people are lucky enough to wake up everyday and get to do what they love, and fewer yet, get to do it with the one they love. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have both!
What should our readers know about your business?
We take so much pride in our craft and what really sets us apart from the average creative, or media production firm, is our ability to connect on a personal level with our clients, along with the expansive list of services we offer.
Our business model is very much that of a “Ma and Pa Shop” feel, where the unique relationships we build, allows the same couple to hire us for their engagement shoot, wedding day, birth announcement, and family portraits, and yet we operate on a large scale, where televised commercials, documentaries, and well-known podcasts make up the bulk of our workload. Having the ability to offer and master both is something we are very proud of.
We got to where we are today through a lot of hard work and sacrifice. Being completely self taught, we didn’t take the traditional approach to mastering our craft and while it wasn’t always easy, it’s certainly been worth it. We’ve overcome challenges by working together and learning from our mistakes along the way. Some of the biggest lessons we’ve learned in our industry is that you don’t have to say yes to every opportunity that comes your way. Being selective of job opportunities and choosing clients who work well with our team, has allowed us to position ourselves and our work in arenas where they really stand out and shine.
We want the world to know that we are an ethical company who puts people first and foremost. We are storytellers through and through and we enjoy the intricate, yet different processes, of story telling through both photo and video. We pride ourselves on bringing our clients vision to life, through our own creative lens, and with every project we are a part of, we strive to create content that will withstand the test of time. Our goal is to create a work of art that will allow our clients to relive their special moment or project for many years to come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We both really love and appreciate all that the city has to offer. Some of our favorite spots to shoot are also some of our favorite places to take visiting guests to. These gems include; Red Rocks, Sloan’s Lake, Green Mountain, Larimer Square, Union Station, and Denver Botanic Gardens. There are so many great places to grab a bite to eat in Denver and the surrounding areas but, a few of our favorites are Happy Camper, Fire Restaurant & Lounge, Linger, and Cabrón Carbón,
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Long before our media production company evolved into what it is today, we were just regular old freelance photographers/videographers whose family and friends entrusted us to capture and preserve some of their most treasured memories. From engagements, to weddings, to family portraits, and sporting events, they were the ones who gave us our start, and we are so grateful to them! Additionally, as self-employed parents with two young children, we understand that raising children takes a village, and we would be absolutely lost without ours. All of our late night, weekend, and destination gigs would not be possible without them and we are so, so grateful!
