We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Carly Hudson, D.C. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Carly, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think that “balance” is a word that doesn’t really work for finding your way through the burnout and stress that comes with too many work commitments and not enough time to do what you enjoy. Work and life aren’t separate parts of our existence. Trying to keep a balance of “work over here” and “life over there” is too much. I have been lucky to create a job that I love, with patients that make me look forward to my day, and podcast guests that offer amazing conversations that fill my cup. I started writing a book because I love to write, not because I had to check it off my list. I can sink into my time with my family and space alone, knowing that how I fill my day offers joy to different parts of myself, regardless if it’s “work” or “life.” Because I don’t think you can make that distinction any more.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have had a lot of health challenges in my life. To make a very long story short, a severe traumatic brain injury as a child left me with a lot of physical and mental disabilities I had to overcome. But these differences are what have made me the doctor I am. By searching for my own answers, I have a long list of modalities to help my patients at my chiropractic clinic – Healing Ground Chiropractic Care. I also have the empathy to know that healing isn’t just about the right treatment. It’s a full body, mind, spirit journey through finding the answers, trusting your team, and ultimately trusting yourself to become a better version of who you are. I bring all this to my care, because I want my patients to know that they have the strength within themselves to heal. I bring these conversations to my podcast (Healing Ground Movement Podcast) because I know there are people like I was–struggling to know where to begin. Recently, I sat down to write a book about what that journey looks like, and how our cultural givens often get in the way of our best intentions for healing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a Denverite, born and raised, I take a lot of pride in my city! It’s hard to pick just one place. I love poking around the neighborhoods and finding all the hidden gems. We would definitely spend some time on Pearl Street grabbing coffee at Steam Espresso Bar and lunch at HOJA for a Living Lox Vida Loca, their signature burrito with Nordic lox, mashed avocado, cashew cream and fresh dill. From May to November, the South Pearl Farmers Market is another favorite with its great variety of local produce and products.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
– Cheryl Burget – the Business Coach who helped get me on track with my chiropractic practice. – My family – who support me in all my crazy ideas.
– My team at work, past and present – I can’t keep this all afloat on my own!
