We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Hannah Strom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Hannah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Awake Pelvic Health & Wellness is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Clinic in Woodbury, MN. We help people of all genders struggling with pelvic floor issues, including bladder, bowel, and sexual health concerns, as well as providing care during someones pregnancy and postpartum journey. I am passionate about providing care for intimate challenges and helping break the stigma of pelvic floor concerns.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a pelvic floor physical therapy clinic called Awake Pelvic Health & Wellness. We help people resolve their pelvic pain, support their pregnancy and postpartum journey, or address any other pelvic health concerns (including bowel, bladder, and sexual function issues). We are unique in that our style of care involves taking a truly holistic approach to physical therapy, by working head to toe and diving into someone lifestyle (diet, sleep, exercise, stress) in order to help them make long-lasting change. Unfortunately, so much of the traditntal healthcare realm (including PT), are short, reactive visits with a provider and not always addressing the root cause.
I am super proud of growing my physical therapy practice from a one room clinic and just myself to a team of 4 physical therapists and an admin staff. It was definitely not easy, and SO many months of long hours, late nights, and working on the weekends, but so worth it to see where we are today and how many patients we can serve. I’ve had to lean on my support system a lot and as cheesy as it sounds, learned to try my best to actually enjoy the journey and be proud the moment I am in right now.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them on a road trip to Lake Superior in Northern MN or WI, ideally in the fall, to see the fall colors. We would stop to hike and grab a coffee along the way. Our stay would be in Duluth, MN or the Wild Rice Retreat in Bayfield, WI for a long weekend, filled with hiking, sauna, and health meals, and a glass of wine. Coming back into the Twin Cities we would walk around the city lakes, including my favorite, Lake Harriet, and stop for dinner in Linden Hills. The Twin Cities is chock-full of amazing restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and outdoor activities,
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents and my husband for always supporting me and pushing me to take a little risk and follow what I am most passionate about
