We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariam Kazadi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariam, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For our business, I think it’s important to always make sure that our App remains a resource that is providing visibility for black businesses and a free resource at that. It has been great to get messages from businesses saying their customers found them on the BBLK App.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a writer speaker and innovator from the democratic republic of Congo. My journey started as a faith-based writer, for years now I have been a contributor to Back2Basics Magazine and plan to release my first book at the top of the year. My goal in anything I do whether it is working on The BBLK App or working in the community is to encourage others to be all they were created to be, despite their backgrounds. Creating the BBLK App with the BBLK App team Ramond Murphy and Leonard “Graffiti” Johnson came from just a willingness to give back and to serve our community in a creative and powerful way. If the last year taught us anything is life is short and it’s time to build and come together. So if we have skills or talents, ideas, and solutions now is the time to bring those to the table. Moving forward I plan to continue to speak and write on topics that move others forward Bringing conversations on spirituality and self-care to the forefront and drawing from my background and hardships as well as my experiences as an entrepreneur to be an example to others showcasing that no matter your background if you want to contribute to the world in a big and positive way, you can overcome your past and present doubts and do so!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places in the city are the Sante Fe art district that never disappoints with its many events in the summer, Welton street, where you can find amazing treasures like Welton street cafe, which has been engraved into Denver’s rich history; I can’t go without mentioning the chic and always delicious restaurant syrup in cherry creek on Josephine st. It is an amazing restaurant with great shopping areas surrounding it. Of course, I love the city and Denver, but I have to say my favorite part of Colorado is the amazing hikes one can take in areas like Manitou springs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
