We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Hillary Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Hillary, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has always been a challenge for me. Being an introverted extrovert I never have really wanted to stand out from the crowd. That being said choosing a career that is considered an alternative to the mainstream has opened me up to a world of taking risks! Starting my medical practice from the ground up as a sole proprietor and embarking on a career as a one woman show has been empowering. I have learned to jump in with both feet out of my comfort zone. To trust my instinct, develop strong intuition, ask for help, and last but not least lead from my heart. If you take risks and move forward from deep in your heart the end result will be what it is and you will have a great time along the way. I am now surrounded by a team of like minded women who are colleagues, business partners and dear friends in a collective called Naturopathic Womens Wellness.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love what I do! The real essence of what sets Naturopathic Womens Wellness apart in the field of medicine is TIME. We take time to really, carefully listen to your story. In the listening are all the answers. Listening not only with our ears but with attention to non-verbal cues, tone of voice, the energy in the room. I feel that it is my job to attend to my patients with positivity & focus. If I can ask the right questions they will tell me all the answers I need to best support them. Support in my opinion is a whole system approach. I can not separate mental emotional wellness from physical or spiritual wellness. All systems need to be operating in alignment to maintain balance as a unit. I use this approach in combination with conventional lab testing, imaging, physical exam, diet, breath-work and lifestyle factors to then evaluate health and create treatment platforms.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a unique question within a pandemic yet my answer would most likely be the same! Nature is my go to feel good adventure. Living in Boulder creates a life of doors wide open to soak up the sun. I love to take friends or family to hike Hogsback, Sanitas, go paddle boarding at Lake Macintosh, Strawberry Park Hotsprings is a wonder of the world! Shine Restaurant would be first on my list for a delicious feel good dining experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been so lucky in my life to have connections with amazing female role models who have helped me become the person I am today. Starting of course with my mom, Joy, and in the name she has embodied that in my life. She always showed me that life can be a glass half full, to find humor in life and learn to be vulnerable. My Nana was the health nut and opened my eyes to natural medicine as a daily tonic and way of being. My sister is my life line, the other pea in my pod! Heidi Brant has been a dear friend and role model for decades providing unconditional love and much needed sound advice along the way. Kia Miller has been my yoga teacher expanding my heart and consciousness to stay connected to the divine. Barbra Charron is my glitter and glue in my practice and in friendship, she shines. My children have been my biggest gifts and grandest teachers of true love, patience and finding beauty in all things.
