We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Nichole Hardy Swann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Nichole, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
While working in private practice in Denver and Colorado Springs, I felt isolated from the support services I sent our patients to. I wanted more follow through and a connection with my patients. I envisioned a clinic with practitioners from several disciplines working together and following patients collaboratively. Essentially, I wanted to move away from report writing to integrated care.

Many private practices in my field are also owned by men, but our industry is dominated by women. My goals was to give women a place to thrive and build their skills while being recognized both professionally and monetarily for their services and skills.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I came into contact with the autistic and neurodiverse community on a personal and professional level in my postdoctoral work. This group of amazing human beings spoke to me. Working with parents, answering questions, building education about the experience, and developing a plan to help families succeed became a passion very quickly for me. I worked as a full time supervisor and psychologist, while building my private practice, and momming so hard with some really incredible children of my own. I love teaching my own children about inclusion, diversity, and building a life of service, which they see me practice daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the western slope of Colorado. As such, I am a huge fan of the Glenwood Springs Iron Mountain Hot Springs, National Monument in Grand Junction, Slow Groovin BBQ in Marble, and fly fishing on the Frying Pan River in Basalt, Colorado. Family owned taqueria’s and carniceria’s are also a passion. I can always eat posole. My kids and husband love to ski and snowboard. I tag along. But, my favorite is really the outdoor concerts and natural landscapes of our state.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out all neurodiverse individuals and families of neurodiverse individuals! Being neurodiverse is met with certain challenges in our society. But, neurodiverse individuals and their families have really taken up the mantel to build awareness around neurodiversity, advocating for neurodiverse inclusion in public spaces, and building on education about the awesomeness that accompanies being neurodiverse. I think galvanizing momentum of the community has been AWESOME to behold.
