We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Valerie LeComte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Valerie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My business is really a reflection of what I wanted for my own health. I had some minor health issues and knew the answers I would get if I went to a regular doctor-prescriptions for my symptoms and not much else. I wanted to know why I was having these problems and how to get rid of them, not just put a band-aid on them. Even within the integrative medicine space, I was frustrated with my experiences. I had been recommended to get thousands of dollars of expensive testing, start on large amounts of supplements daily without a clear plan, and do fasted exercise to lose weight (which I had said was not a goal of mine). So I decided I had to become the doctor I had always wanted. I collaborate with my patients to figure out what their health goals really are and help them to find the root cause of their issues. We work on things like nutrition, lifestyle, mindset to bring about true healing and long-lasting changes. It’s not an overnight fix, but it’s worth the long-term results.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart is my willingness to find the root cause of health problems and work with my patients to figure out where they want to go. I think too often, health becomes a “one size fits all” answer, because that’s the easiest way. But that doesn’t work for a lot of people! I think if you are frustrated by not seeing the results you want after trying out all of the standard advice on the internet, it’s time to seek out some professional help. Starting and running a business has been a lot of work! I have degrees in science and have never taken a business course in my life. But like so many other things, I’m just figuring it out one step at a time.
My business is dedicated to helping people feel the best they ever have, and I’m highly dedicated to this process!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well we would start where I always take visitors-breakfast burritos at Onefold! Followed by some outdoor activities, depending on the season. Some of my favorites are hiking in Golden Gate Canyon State Park (great for those not used to altitude!), skiing at any of the amazing resorts, or snowshoeing or hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. And if necessary, there are a ton of wonderful practitioners at Nurture for any massage or other healthcare related needs! My favorite restaurants in the city are probably El Five or Safta. After so much time staying at home over the past few years, I’m looking for recommendations as well!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to my patients! They are dedicated to themselves and making a difference in their own lives. It is so rewarding to be on this journey with them!
