We had the good fortune of connecting with Elena Pollard, MA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I had my first son Trace, I decided I wanted to use only natural products with him. I began researching how to make them at home. My first batches I made too much, so I gave some to family and friends. They kept coming back for more as they worked so well! So that’s how Soleluna Botanicals was born!

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe that having a wholistic, integrative training sets me apart from some others in the field. I not only utilize Homeopathy, but also herbal medicine, traditional medicinal mushrooms, gemmotherapy and more. So many wonderful tools are found in nature, and I believe in utilizing all of them to bring balance to my client’s health. I am proud to have extensive training in a very complex form of Homeopathy called Human Chemistry Integrative Therapy, as I am one of less than a dozen trained in the country.

I am very proud of the products I create. My newest creation is BioBru Mushroom Coffee! I am Colorado Springs first mushroom coffee and being sold in stores and some coffee shops. I also make mushroom extracts and Plant and Fungi Elixirs for brain health, adrenal health, immune health and more.

The path of getting to the point of opening my own local clinic in Colorado Springs, and having my handmade products sold in local stores and markets took over 5 years of hard work and lots of persistence! Moving a small, woman owned business from a place of creation to success is challenging and takes a positive vision and inexhaustible drive. You have to believe so strongly in your brand and the products/services you offer. If what you offer to the community comes from a place of integrity, you will have the success you dream of. Integrity has always been at the core of the Soleluna Botanicals brand: integrity in ingredients, formulas, services, classes I teach. You will get the support of your community, which translates to business success if your brand is steeped in integrity. I think the Soleluna Botanicals mission is very simple: create high quality organic wellness products and services that bring balance to your health.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh there are so many amazing places to visit in Colorado Springs. I would start with brunch at Garden of the God’s resort, overlooking GOG park. Best view in the city! Then we would hike around Helen Hunt Falls, maybe go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (voted best zoo in North America!). We would end at one of the local breweries such as Colorado Mountain Brewery (the salmon and microbrews are amazing), Cerberbus or Red Leg Brewery. I would plan a trip to Manitou to get a Yerba Mate Latte from Mate Cafe, sit by the creek, and have lunch along the water. We would plan another hike around Bear Creek, then hit Old Colorado City for dinner at either Tapateria or Paravincis. Another favorite is Chinese Tea ceremony and Dim Sum at Yellow Mountain Tea House.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout for starting Soleluna Botanicals, my natural products business and for pursuing the study of Homeopathy, is to my two son’s Trace and Tucker. They were my main motivation for wanting to study and practice natural medicine. I wanted only the cleanest, most effective natural products to give my boys, and in turn all my customers benefit from the hard work and integrity of ingredients that go into every product I create.

I’m constantly inspired by other women who are pursuing their dreams and running their own businesses. I would love to give a shout out to three wonderful local businesses that I believe have not only high quality products and services, but are a valuable resource to their community. Chanel Lilly with Simply All Natural, who makes amazingly clean and natural bath and beauty products.  Lisa Chapman with Celestial salt who has a beautiful metaphysical store and hosts so many classes on sound healing, reiki, astrology and other unique modalities. And  Marissa Searle who owns Lavender & Thyme in Black Forest, which is a beautiful little cabin apothecary that sells local handmade products and holds classes and esthetician services.
