We had the good fortune of connecting with Elias Bshara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elias, what do you want people to remember about you?
My ultimate goal is to establish a lasting legacy in the design industry, creating a name that will endure for decades. I aim to achieve this by focusing on crafting unique designs for every object I create. My goal is to build items that are not only aesthetically surprising but also sustainable, democratically affordable, and timeless. Drawing inspiration from nature, space, and other sources, I strive to develop complex and organic forms that captivate the imagination. Ultimately, I aspire for people to remember me as a designer who revolutionized the industry with a unique approach to object design, one that enhances lifestyles and leaves a lasting impact.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My designs are a direct expression of my personality, serving as a canvas through which I communicate with the world. Rooted in my curiosity, they reflect a journey that has brought me to where I am today. Drawing inspiration from biomimicry, space, art, and the art of storytelling, my designs are not just objects; they are narratives waiting to be told. Each piece is crafted to not only tell a compelling story but also to be visually striking, embodying a unique blend of form and function.

My design identity is deeply rooted in the belief that every object should have a story worth telling. This belief was cultivated during my time studying interior design at the Faculty of Arts in Damascus. It was there that I created my first chair, a pivotal moment that ignited a passion for creating objects that enrich daily life. From furniture to lighting, I find joy in crafting items that seamlessly integrate into our everyday experiences.

Despite the demands of a 9-to-5 professional life, my dedication to design remains unwavering. I continue to pursue my passion, constantly seeking out new projects and challenges. For me, the key lesson learned in my career is to never stop chasing your dreams. Each milestone is an opportunity to set new goals, driving me to push the boundaries of what is possible in design.

Ultimately, my goal is to democratize design, making it accessible to a wide audience. I believe that luxury should not be limited to the affluent, and I strive to enhance the lives of as many people as possible through my creations. This is my mission, and I hope that my work will leave a lasting impact on the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Dubai offers plenty of captivating destinations to explore. One highly recommended spot is the desert, which boasts an awe-inspiring and serene landscape unlike any other. The city itself is a marvel to wander through, with its stunning architecture and vibrant atmosphere. sure to indulge in some of the exceptional international dining.

When I explore a new city, I always seek out a vantage point from a mountain or hill that overlooks the urban landscape. The view from these elevated points offers a breathtaking perspective of the cityscape. Dubai offers plenty of these scenic spots, each offering a unique and unforgettable panorama.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A significant part of my journey to where I am today can be attributed to the collective effort and unwavering support of many individuals. My family has been a pillar of strength, especially in nurturing my artistic pursuits. The mentors I encountered in college played a pivotal role, igniting within me a passion for creativity and a drive to constantly push my limits. Additionally, the support from my friends and colleagues has been instrumental, providing encouragement and motivation that have kept me going.
