We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Wolf-Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, what do you attribute your success to?
There are obviously many factors that play into the success of Dream Weddings. The first thing that comes to my mind is support. When I say support I am talking about friends, family, vendors and couples! Without a support system my business is nonexistent but each type of support is different. For example friends and family are there to help encourage me and push me through difficult business seasons. They hype me up “Every wedding you post looks fake because they are so beautiful. They just keep getting better.” Then there is the fellow vendors, they recommend me to their couples, sometimes without even knowing me in person. I have made so many “friendors” through Instagram and they are my online entourage. They share my posts, comment on posts and help me reach new couples. Being a wedding vendor is impossible without their support! Lastly my couples, I don’t think they would look at themselves as a support for me but truly without them there is no business. They provide support but first of choosing me and trusting met to a part of their wedding day but also with reviews and recommendations. I don’t think I could continue to be bigger and better without the reassurance of the post wedding day texts and reviews! I would say they vast support system I have created for Dream Weddings has brought my success and will continue to allow me to be successful in the future.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dream Weddings is a wedding planning company based in Milwaukee, WI. We set ourselves apart from other local planners with the connections we create with our couples and their vendors. We believe that weddings involve a lot of team work and have found working closely with the couple’s vendors allows for a seamless day. I maybe the timeline creator but in no means is what I say an end all be all. I am there to support everyone in performing their “jobs” as long as it is in the couples best interest.
Dream Weddings was created by my husband, it was an idea that never crossed my mind. I was working as a full time Medical Intensive Care Unit nurse during COVID-19 and my job had become depressing. I was consistently around death and dying. It got to the point that it was affecting my life outside of work and Greyson (my husband) suggested that I start a wedding planning business. He had watched me plan our wedding and help a few friends with their weddings and saw that I was naturally good at it. When he suggested this I actually laughed and said no way I have job. The idea never left my head, I had started doing a little research and creating a website but was hesitant. Until my neighbors got in on it and started asking “Well are you going to do it or not?” I was still debating in my head, I was so worried what other people would think or say if I started a business. Dream Weddings was truly born when our neighbors recommended me to a friend of theirs to plan their wedding. I decided to go for it, what did I have to lose? I am someone who when they do something I put in full effort and commit to it. That’s what I did with Dream Weddings, and have never stopped. There have been a lot of doubts along the way and I still worry what people think but in the end it brings me happiness and joy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone is coming for a week and had never been to WI, the first thing on my list to do is taking them for cheese curds. I would take them to Lake Front brewery for a brewery tour, a beer and of course the curds.
For drinks I would take them to the Outsider (the rooftop of the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel). I would make sure they grab a Wisconsin brandy old fashioned sweet as their first drink while we soak in the rooftop views of Milwaukee.
For dinner we would have to go to one of the Barlotta’s restaurants specially Lake Park Bistro. It is a french restaurant with a stunning view of Lake Michigan.
I would recommend a coffee and hangout at Collectivo on the lake. They have a great outdoor area that is perfect to sit down and relax after a walk through the park across the street
Of course you have to come in the summer because winter kinda sucks and Summerfest is only during summer. I would recommend checking out the lineup to catch a band and have a few beers. If you came when Summerfest isn’t happening I would recommend one of the many other festivals Milwaukee has Germanfest, Polishfest, etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Greyson Wolf-Dixon – Husband. Without him Dream Weddings wouldn’t have ever been a thought in my mind. He saw things in myself I couldn’t see and pushed me to create something I am passionate and love. He also works alongside me at my weddings and helps bring every wedding to life. Without him Dream Weddings is nothing.
