We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Naomi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks has been one of the main themes in our lives the past couple of years. It started with quitting our jobs and selling everything to go on a world trip, followed by moving to a new country where we had nothing and knew nobody. Then we decided to start our business, The Creation Dancers Agency, in the midst of the pandemic, in a country that was not our homeland and it being in the entertainment industry. By doing all this you could say that we are not afraid of taking risks, however that is not true. The thing is that we try to not let our fears of taking risks lead us. I believe that in order to make a change and growth, you will need to take some risks in life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With The Creation Dancers Agency we provide professional dancers for commercials, videoclips, movies and live performances. We work a lot with casting directors, but we also make creative productions from scratch, with our team of creative professionals. We absolutely love to dive in the creative process of making content or a performance that completely embodies the brand or product of our clients, trough the unique and accessible art of dance. Dance just makes everything more beautiful. It attracts people and it allows its audience to experience certain subjects on a whole new level. Being a dancer myself, I have an insight in what I can expect from our dancers and what they need to perform in the best way possible. We want them to feel taken care of and safe within our agency, giving them opportunities to grow. We do this by organising industry related masterclasses for our dancers, and have close communication with them. Meanwhile Didiér´s focus is to fulfill our clients´ wishes and to make sure that the process runs smooth. Our goal is to create the best experience and outcome for both parties.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Barcelona is a beautiful city that breathes art trough its streets, which is a main factor of why we live here. It has the perfect mix of city life and nature, you can find liveliness in the center at Placa Catalunya, peace in the Montjuic or enjoy the sun at the beach in Barceloneta. Spain is known for tapas and I understand why. Not only is the food delicious, also the whole concept of sharing little bites together with a table full of friends or family creates a fun and relaxed vibe, allowing you to go on and talk for hours. La Bombeta (close to the beach) is one of my favourite places to eat. Then strolling trough the streets of el Born is a perfect way to meet some of the city´s history while discovering little shops of local artists. The market of Sant Antoni is a beautiful building on its own, but if you take the stairs down you will most likely find different dancers practicing their profession which is also where we scouted some of our talents.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started The Creation Dancers Agency together with my husband Didiér Anthony, and without him it would have never become what it is now and what it is going to be. To have a partner at your side who empowers you and the company, who is not afraid to dream big and puts all his effort in, is a huge encouragement. Also our community of friends have been super helpful. They helped us a lot in the beginning phase with translation, business planning and during events. At last our parents have always been incredibly supportive in our (wild) ideas, being our cheerleaders from the side line.
