We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved photography, at a young age I started taking photos for my friends for their senior photos. I loved that I could freeze a moment in time, that I could capture emotion through a still image. Never did I think I would make my hobby my career!

I was in healthcare for years, and I loved it- taking care of people, helping them feel better and giving compassion in a vulnerable time for them. In 2021 I fell pregnant with a high risk pregnancy. I had some devastating news resulting in slowing life down to help our baby girl stay in as long as possible!

After having our sweet baby girl at 34 weeks I knew I couldn’t go back to a high demanding job, a job that would take me away from her for 9-12 hours a day. My husband and I took a leap of faith in launching my business full time. Prior to this I was pursuing photography on the weekends and in the evenings after my day job!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Like I said before; when I first picked up my camera, this was just a hobby. I started with friends senior photos, which turned in to couples photos, and family photos.
A little further in to my part time photography career I started getting out and photographing more families, headshots, kiddos, and even a few weddings!

Fast forward to 2025 I have honed in on my niche in this world- Children’s portraits. From newborns, milestones, cake smashes and children’s sessions I have found my home.

In the start of most every photographers career you take on any and every job that comes you way, the adrenaline behind doing a new type of shoot that you haven’t done before is exciting. However, having my brain balance so many different scenarios and sessions was not easy, it’s nice to finally have a destination on children’s photos where I feel I’m most advanced.

I have always had a love for babies and kids. From nannying, to healthcare to having two kids of my own; it’s my happy place. I have been able to see how quick children grow. They have all these little physical characteristics that you think your going to remember forever, but without capturing those moments, its SO easy to forget.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a Colorado native, this is a hard answer for me. I have seen SO much of Colorado’s beauty!

One place I feel my happiest and would love to take friends is Evergreen CO- the fresh air, good food and even better views, it feels like home.

This place is significant to my family, as it hosts the cemetery for my sister and brother who passed a way years ago. I love going to visit their graves and see the amazing views. Off of the cemetery is a little body of water, where you can see so many Buffalo enjoying the water and standing close!

Evergreen feels like a place I can slow down, and just enjoy the peace and all of Gods beauty.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Most of all, I thank my husband for helping me jump in with two feet and for always encouraging and pushing me! I also thank my two beautiful kiddos who inspire me & keep me going!
