We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emma, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business because I wanted more ownership over the kind of work I was doing and how I showed up for people. I had been in the events world for a while and loved the pace and creativity, but I kept feeling like there was a disconnect between what couples needed and how things were being run.

I wanted to create a planning experience that felt more personal, more organized, and less stressful. Something that really focused on people, not just timelines and checklists. I also liked the idea of building something from the ground up, where I could take on projects that felt aligned and work with people I genuinely connected with. Starting Moss & Maeve was a way to take all the things I cared about (design, logistics, relationships) and turn them into something of my own.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Moss & Maeve is a wedding planning and styling company based in Denver. I specialize in full planning and month of coordination for couples who want a day that feels thoughtful, seamless, and true to them. What sets my business apart is how hands-on and personal the experience is—I really prioritize connection, clear communication, and making the planning process as stress-free as possible.

I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me. A wedding is such a personal, emotional day, and being the one they lean on to bring it all together is something I don’t take lightly. I’ve had the opportunity to plan everything from intimate backyard weddings to 300 person New Year’s Eve events at Coors Field, and each one means something different to me.

Getting to this point definitely hasn’t been easy. I started small and there were moments I doubted whether I could really turn it into a full time business, but I kept showing up, kept refining the process, and built strong relationships with vendors and clients along the way. Word of mouth and reputation have been everything.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that being organized isn’t enough—you also need to be adaptable. Things will go wrong, timelines will shift, and emotions will run high. The key is staying calm, communicating clearly, and genuinely caring about the people you’re working with.

What I want people to know is that Moss & Maeve isn’t just about pretty weddings—it’s about creating space for people to feel taken care of, heard, and supported during a really meaningful time in their lives. That’s the heart of what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Denver in the summer, I’d plan a week that mixes some outdoor stuff with good food and a few of my favorite spots. We’d start with brunch at Jelly, then head out for a hike—maybe at St. Mary’s Glacier or Chautauqua in Boulder, depending on how much effort we feel like putting in.

One day we’d go white water rafting in Idaho Springs or paddle boarding at Chatfield, and another we’d float the river in Golden. I’d also take them to the Denver Botanic Gardens one morning. It’s quiet, beautiful, and a nice change of pace!

At night, we’d grab dinner and drinks at Postino, maybe catch a show at Red Rocks, or go out in LoHi or RiNo for cocktails. We’d also catch a Rockies game and wrap up the week with Jazz Fest at City Park—a relaxed way to spend a Sunday with live music and a good crowd. If that’s not happening, we might check out the South Pearl Street Farmers Market, walk around Sloan’s Lake, or grab drinks on a rooftop somewhere like El Five.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few people who have played a big role in getting me to where I am now, but I would definitely give a shoutout to the first couple who hired me to plan their wedding. I was just getting started and still building my confidence, and they trusted me completely. They didn’t micromanage or doubt the process—they let me be creative, solve problems, and really step into my role. That experience helped shape the kind of planner I wanted to be and the kind of business I wanted to build.

I also want to recognize the Denver vendor community. From the beginning, I’ve been lucky to work with such talented, generous people (photographers, florists, DJs, venue teams) who’ve not only supported me but also shared advice, referrals, and encouragement. It’s made a huge difference. Running a small business can feel isolating at times, but having that network has reminded me I’m not doing it alone.
