We had the good fortune of connecting with Ericka List and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ericka, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from Puyallup, Washington. I grew up in nature. My grandma had this amazing cabin in the mountains we used to go to during the summer. She taught me about the different types of trees, berries, mushrooms, and if I was really quiet, we might see deer. Because of her, I appreciate nature more and it’s often one of the subjects in my photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My purpose in creating art isn’t just to make a pretty photo, but rather to capture a memory and make the viewer feel something. It’s been a challenging process because some people see photos at face value and I really want them to peel back the layers and see why this image is so important. I also love to photograph passion projects for people. These sessions are so important to the healing process, and often very emotionally raw.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably take them hiking in Estes Park because it’s such a beautiful and peaceful place. I also love going to Victor and Cripple Creek and exploring the history of the two towns. I’m a huge fan of brunch, so we’d definitely have to go to Urban Egg and Nana’s Kitchen. I like a bit of variety for dinners, so probably Kanpai Sushi and IV by Brother Luck.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a lot of people who have encouraged me along my journey. I wouldn’t be here without the support of my family. They’ve given me feedback over the years and have often ended up in my photos. I’ve also been blessed to be surrounded by an amazing photography community. They’ve helped me out when I needed it and are always here to cheer me on.
