We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Bradley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a bit of ‘wanderlust.’ During college, I spent a semester in Ireland, and after I graduated, I wasn’t quite ready to get a traditional job. So I spent a summer bartending on Cape Cod, did a cross country road trip, kayaked the coast of Mexico for a month, then spent 2 years in Barcelona, teaching English. One thing was for sure, I wanted a job that allowed for freedom and flexibility, and the ability to travel when and where I wanted. Since going 100% commission in 2007, there’s been no turning back! I started my business in Denver, then moved full time to the mountains, took our kids on a 6 month RV road trip in 2020, and have investment properties in 3 states, which allow us to live the life we’ve always imagined!

What should our readers know about your business?
My start in business was anything but easy. I went 100% commission in 2007, and by 2008, I was $35,000 in credit card debt, and had to ride my bike to a client meeting, because I didn’t have enough money for gas. When my credit card was declined for a $2 cup of coffee, I thought I’d hit rock bottom! Luckily, my father encouraged me to keep going, and do whatever it takes! So I hired coaches, read books, attended seminars, and eventually started to see my business grow. What sets me apart from the rest is that I didn’t love ‘surviving success.’ In other words, when the business took off, it started to rob me of my energy, enthusiasm, and ability to be present with loved ones. At first, I convinced myself to be grateful, and ‘suck it up,’ because I felt so lucky to be making money. And I learned quickly that I wasn’t alone, Many of the ‘successful’ people I knew were suffering behind closed doors. They didn’t take vacations without working 24/7. They experienced lots of stress, and a good bit of unhappiness and unfulfillment. So I had 3 choices, keep surviving, play small, or scale my business. I went with option 3. Once I started scaling, I began teaching others how to do the same, living by the motto that the “goal is to build a life you don’t need a vacation from!’ I became passionate about teaching others to design their business to power their lives, rather than letting their success rob their energy! This is the foundation of Pursuing Freedom.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve been living in the mountains (Winter Park) since 2016, but when I get to Denver, my favorite spots are Union Station, RINO, Highlands Square, Larimer Square, Sushi Den on Pearl, Stanley Market…gosh! So many good place to eat and play!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
100%! My journey in the mortgage business began with coaching from Buffini & Company, and later The Freedom Club. As I began building my business as a speaker, author and coach, I hired the amazing Sharon Lechter, and as our real estate investment portfolio grew, I joined Gobundance for Women, a group I’m still involved with. These are just a few of the mentors that have influenced my journey in all things real estate and entrepreneurship! More books and podcasts than I could name as well!
