We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritza Galvan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maritza, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Petrichor was born of the union of two dreams. When I was a child, I always dreamed of the idea of creating something with my hands, something that came out of my mind. 4 years ago, I moved to the states, and I was trying to have a more sustainable lifestyle, and all the personal care part had been difficult, it was hard to find products that I loved and were effective. That was the moment when I decided to learn how to formulate my own products and after sharing them with family and friends, they encouraged me to share them with the world.
What should our readers know about your business?
Petrichor is a project that offers natural products, handmade with artisanal processes and with natural ingredients for personal care. We strive to offer products with less waste, with reusable or recyclable packaging that can be reintegrated into the earth.
The world encourages us to consume, our purpose is to offer a personal care alternative where we are more aware of the products we consume and the waste we generate. We are proud to help people re-discover a form of cosmetics and personal care that helps us connect with nature, respecting and protecting it.
I would like to facilitate the path towards sustainability, I want everyone to know that to be eco-friendly we do not need to be perfect, we need to start, with small steps, small actions such as choosing a shampoo bar, reducing the single-use plastic that we consume or separate our waste could make a big difference if we do it together.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Utah has given me a great home, just by driving through the city you can see the majesty of nature, and I love that. This place also has the most perfect trails, my favorite is Adams Canyon, everyone needs to go there.
We do also have a strong community of artists/creators so you can easily find and enjoy a good market or pop-up to support small businesses. When I’m not there as a vendor I love to be there as a customer to enjoy the food, support the community, and have a good time.
Finally, a trip to Utah is not complete without stopping at the best Mexican restaurant, Chile Tepin.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are two important people behind this story. First of all, this story could not have started if my mom, Adriana, had not instilled in me the confidence of knowing that I am capable of making any of my dreams come true, because she has always allowed me to fly towards my dreams.
On the other hand, my husband, Kevin, who is always willing to try all my creations, listens to me develop all my ideas and above all supports me and motivates me to continue growing.
