We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Crider and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I saw an underserved community grasping for opportunity, so we created opportunity. There are a lot of opportunity for kids and veterans to learn outdoor skills but not women. Most sons were invited on hunting and fishing trips by Dad and Grandpa and the girls were left behind. Women want the opportunity and there wasn’t a group that had a focus to create space for women in the outdoors. Creating space for women in the outdoors is now Uncharted Outdoorswomen’s mission.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a recovering financial advisor armed with a lot of business sense. I saw women’s groups come and go and I believe this may have been the missing factor. They weren’t set up correctly with the proper legal documents, accounting, licenses, and insurance. I had been running this operation for free for many years until I quit my finance career pre-covid and went full speed ahead with Uncharted Outdoorswomen. The concept has been met with a TON of enthusiasm.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This time of year, summer, I would take them to a high alpine creek to get the real feel of Colorado. Recreating on public land is an opportunity so much of us don’t think about. Some state don’t have public land. We have a ton! Hiking along the creek looking for edible mushrooms and medicinal herbs while pointing out different wildflowers in bloom and conifers about to drop their seeds. Pointing out the different signs of animals such as shed scraping and game trails and being able to identify which animal came through seems to always blow peoples mind. But it is a skill that is key in hunting. We would fish the little creek or high alpine lake for brook trout, brown trout, and our native fish, the cutthroat trout using different flies via fly fishing. I would end the trip at a local brewery, of course.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The only reason Uncharted works is because we have a Dream Team of women who work hard at their side hustle educating and guiding women in the outdoors.
