We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Marotto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
When I started Tuanis Shop back in January, I never thought I would be where I am now with it and I am SO excited to where my small business will be this time next year. I started Tuanis Shop as a way to supplement my income (special education teacher by day).

The most important factor behind my success is to continue learning and always look ahead. When I started Tuanis Shop back in January, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I have always loved vintage and had an eye for it, but as far as actually running a business, I had no previous experience.

Before I launched by business, I received coaching from a fellow Instagram seller (The.Vintage.Shop.Coach) to really learn the in and outs of selling on Instagram. After my coaching session, I continued to learn by observing and analyzing what successful sellers were doing, and then doing it on my page. Also, I continue to learn how to be more effective on Insta and social media in general by again looking at other pages and just researching on google. Also, I am always reaseaching how to run a successful small business. There are so many pieces involved and each month I try adding a new piece into how I run my business. As I am putting what I learn into practice, I see more success with Tuanis Shop.

In addition to always learning, I am continually looking ahead to where I want my business to be next week, next month, 6 months from now, a year from now or even 5 years from now. Putting goals in place helps me be more accountable and has led to greater achievements with Tuanis Shop. I am SO excited to see where Tuanis Shop will be this time next year.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
By day, I am a special education teacher and by night, I am slinging vintage! In between, I am a mom to 3 kids and Barlow, our dog. Running a small business amongst my other obligations has been challenging, but also very rewarding. I am doing it! And for the limited amount of time I have, doing it pretty well. And I am very proud of myself for that. I contribute my success to having a great support system and being more organized. I have a tight schedule I follow each week to ensure I meet the needs of my small business, teaching career, children and myself. Since starting Tuanis Shop, I have learned how to set boundaries and feel okay with not being able to do it all. The latter was very hard for me. Learning this has created more ease in my life and less stress. I am still working on this, but getting better.

I want the world to know that I am a firm believer in if there is a will there is a way. I have always been one to not give up on something I really want. Though I am doing well, running a small business is not easy. But I want to be successful at it and that sometimes means long hours, making sacrifices, and sometimes saying “no” to others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado is such a wonderful a place and I am so thankful to be living here!! There are so many amazing places to visit. If I had a friend come visit for a week long trip, we would first explore Colorado Springs. Some of my favorite places are Mt Muscoco for an amazing hike, Paris Crepe for the most delicious crepes and PigLatin Cocina for a good marg. The other place that is a must is Red Rocks for a great concert! Red Rocks continues to be one of my favorite places, ever.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Marion @MidModMarion on Instagram! She inspired me to start my shop after I was seeing how well hers was going. Also, big thank you to Sarah @The_Traveling_Button for coaching sessions and introducing me to ISN (Instagram Shopping Network), a community of vintage/handcraft sellers (follow #isnmemberitem to see all that is available).
And to friends and family who continue to support me and my small business!! Everyone has been so encouraging and supportive, it has been amazing. Love you all!
