We had the good fortune of connecting with Evan Fitzpatrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I decided to start my own business when I realized I wanted to make films for a living. That discover came very early on in my childhood. When I got older and started to face decisions that would determine my future, I realized I had to start making a plan to reach this goal, of being a filmmaker. There are so many options but I realized I was truly happy working for myself and making my own choices. With that discovery I knew the path I wanted to follow would be the one I paved for myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Filmmaking is storytelling. I fell in love with the way stories are told in cinema because of emotion. To me, a good movie or story is told in a way that kidnaps the viewer and puts them in the action. Creating that escape opens the viewer up to emotional interactions. If someone sees a film of mine feeling slightly different than before they arrived, then I will be happy.

Now what does this have to do with my business? Well Evan Fitzpatrick Films has a slogan, “The Power of Storytelling”. My goal is to take every project and make it a story. Whether it’s a wedding, a school project, an automotive flick or corporate presentation, I want it to grab the fewer by the heart strings. I want that wedding film to leave the viewer with warm feelings or that corporate presentation to have the viewer leaving inspired and ready to go.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here in Colorado, it’s hard to show anyone around and not take them to see the natural beauty in the area. Garden of the Gods and Rocky Mountain National park are a few of my favorites. Of course there are always Rockies, Nuggets and Broncos games, depending on the time of year! If they visit in winter time, then we will be hitting the slopes without second thought!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My folks, hands down. My parents have always been my #1 fans. They worked countless hours to provide for me not only a great life but tools to help me succeed in my field. Even to this day they support my wackiest ideas, and whether or not they personally agree with all of them, they do everything they can to help me realize them. Not only would I not be here today without their love and support, but I would also have no good representation of hard work, compassion, love and courage.

As a Christian, I also owe a huge thanks to the man upstairs. He’s opened many doors for me and blessed me beyond comprehension. While I didn’t see myself as a filmmaker who would only make Christian films, I do hope someday to help bring Christ to the screen and make something meaningful for a viewer who was open to His words or maybe struggling with something in their life.

Lastly, I would have to say my “muse” is Kanye West’s 5th studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. This album has meant a lot to me. It has carried me through tough times, helped me celebrate good times and inspired me everywhere in-between. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t listen to it just about everyday.
