Meet Faith Rodgers | Certified Clinical Herbalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Faith Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Faith, what’s your definition for success?
Success to me is creating a business that adds value to the community and to the lives of the people who work there. It means putting environmental sustainability at the forefront of every decision. Success is having happy and engaged employees who want to invest in the company long-term. My goal is to see consistent, sustainable growth year after year that feels manageable and meaningful. And on a personal level, success means having a business that supports my financial goals while allowing me to have a healthy balance between work and family.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Little Herbal Apothecary is a community herb shop that offers bulk herbs, essential oils, teas and other raw ingredients. In our on-site herbal kitchen, we create our own line of botanically-infused skincare products, medicinal salves, aromatherapy oils, candles and herbal tea blends.
We pride ourselves on promoting environmental sustainability in all our practices including; purchasing organic and ethically-sourced ingredients, using compostable or recyclable containers, offering bulk refills, and packing with sustainable shipping materials.
We also strive to be an educational resource for the community. All of our employees are certified herbalists that can answer questions about the medicinal herbs, skincare and address safety concerns. We offer a variety of workshops and classes on topics relating to herbalism, skincare and wellness.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are located in old town Lafayette, a lovely small town filled with small business, eclectic folks and great art. As you stroll through old town you will see the “Art on the Street”, a rotating installation of 19 sculptures along Public Road and Simpson Street. My favorite coffee shop is East Simpson Coffee Company. They have a great outdoor patio and often have live music. Across the street is a wonderful bookstore, The Read Queen. Favorite spots for dining include, Teocalli Cocina, Community Restaurant and Ras Kassas. Afterward you can grab some ice cream at Eats & Sweets or chocolate at Chocolaterie Stam. And, of course, my favorite places for retail therapy are Vintrey, the Lafayette Flea Market and Due South.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The success of my business is in large part due to the dedication and investment of my amazing team of herbalists. Their hard work, compassion, humor and combined knowledge make the apothecary such a wonderful resource for the community.
I also could not have done any of this without my husband, James. He has always believed in and supported my vision for the Little Herbal Apothecary and helped every step of the way with planning, building and technical support.
