Meet Kaitlin Amanatullah | Wedding/Event Planner & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlin Amanatullah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I never particularly pictured myself starting my own business, but looking back I can see it was where my path was leading!
I have always loved being creative (I went to school for art and art history) and knew that I wanted an outlet for that in my future job, but I wasn’t yet sure how to achieve that. I got my first taste of “entrepreneurship” when I was a Sophomore in college. I had been struggling to find support for an eating disorder I was battling, and ended up co-founding a support group on my campus when I couldn’t find the proper resources. Around that same time I got engaged to my high school sweetheart. In the year that followed, the pieces started to fall into place on their own. My wedding planner was my inspiration to explore the industry, and after various internships/jobs (working at a bridal salon, doing floral deliveries, working for a planner, etc) I found myself in a transitional period that opened up the door for me to start my own business! I had done research a couple of years prior when my interest first piqued about the basic steps of starting a business, but my husband gave me the last push I needed! In July of 2018, I officially launched my website, and by Summer of 2019 we were off to the races!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kaitlin Shea Weddings and Events is a wedding and event planning company that specializes in curating out of the box weddings for creative couples! Our base package is essentially a day of/month of coordination package, with add on options that make it super easy for couples to customize! We built this package very intentionally with the goal of making the process an easy one from start to finish.
We service all of Colorado, but have a soft spot in our hearts for incredible urban spaces! We work with any and all clients, and have weddings ranging from 2 to 250 people!
In our 3 years of business, we have come to realize that we have a bit of a different style than some other planners! We’ve had quite a few vendors, photographers in particular, note that they had worked with planners who, for lack of a better term, steamroll vendor teams, and even clients. While we will always guide you and recommend best practices, we are not the kind of planning team that is going to shut down your big or crazy ideas! We pride ourselves on bringing YOUR vision to life to the best of our ability, and we understand that every wedding is a group effort! If you’re having a blast taking photos and you want to extend cocktail hour by 10 minutes, we got you! 😉
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my gosh we LOVE all things Denver! Some of our absolute favorite spaces:
Denver Milk Market
Union Station
Denver Selfie Museum
Denver Museum of Contemporary Art
Nature & Science Museum
Beatrice & Woodsley
Linger
Run for the Roses Speakeasy
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would LOVE to shout out to my wedding planner, Jamie Flower, as well as Sabia Magurn of Painted Primrose!
Jamie – thank you for treating me with so much kindness, both as a client and a peer/mentee. Your passion inspired my love of weddings, and your initial guidance has been invaluable. I would not have known where to begin had it not been for your words of advice, and I will forever be grateful!
Sabia – you were one of the first vendors I had the pleasure of working with and have since been an inspiration. I’ve gotten to see you as you have continued to grow your business, your team, and now a second company! You’ve shown me what it could be like to have a team, and what it means to be a boss babe, and for that I am so thankful!
