We had the good fortune of connecting with Felice Freiwald and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felice, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Life makes me happy. I spent many years in a dark hole of alcoholism, trauma, and illness. The climb out was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, healing is difficult and painful. Every morning when my feet hit the ground I look out the window, smile, and say thank you for the second chance. I’ve been able to create a life that feeds my soul. I have the best job in the world! I get to make people feel better and help them get back to life. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen over the years that come in with such a defeated outlook because they have been in pain for so long. They can’t do the things they love and they don’t remember what’s it’s like to be pain free. I get so excited to show them they can heal their incredibly powerful body just as I did. Being outdoors in nature and moving my body has been the key to 8 years of sobriety so I know how important it is to get people moving for physical and metal wellness.. Seeing my clients come in after a few months of treatment and they were able to go on a hike or run a makes me smile brightly. You can see the change in their posture and the color of their face, it’s amazing! I spent the morning skiing in the woods with some friends and I kept thinking, my goodness. life is just amazing! Do the things that make you uncomfortable, challenge yourself, this is happiness. Running up mountains is painful, it’s not pretty, I’m breathing hard, there’s lots of snot and cursing, but when I get to the top I’m always laughing. Laughing at the joy and the darkness. Life is grand, don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Tonic Trails Massage Therapy offers therapeutic and sports massage in Golden, CO. I’ve been at it for 21 years and can’t imagine my life without helping folks on a daily basis. I’ve been able to be successful as a Massage Therapist partly because of my intuitive skills, but also because I have the ability to find common ground with whomever walks in the door. I don’t care where you’ve been, what political party you belong to, what you look like, or if you’ve shaved your legs or not! I see a body that needs healing and connection and I feel honored to be given that trust. Taking risks such as expanding and adding new products to the brand has paid off because I believed in it and shared my enthusiasm with those that would listen. My brand is about health and I do my best to walk my talk and inspire those to achieve what I have with hard work and discipline.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hot Springs tour for sure! Days filled with outdoor adventure followed by soaks in that healing water! My favorite spots are a secret! I encourage everyone to get out and explore this wonderful State for themselves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My son Dagan! I was on there verge of losing him and I dug deep every day during that time for myself and his sweet face. My boyfriend, Steve, played a huge role in getting me on this new trail and i will forever be grateful. And of course, my Dad who never once in my life discouraged me from seeking the adventure my spirit yearned for and was always there if things didn’t turn out as planned.
