Meet Gabi Scott | Arts Accessibility Ambassador, Graphic Designer and Art Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabi Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Elle Creative has evolved out of my experiences both as a professional and volunteer over the last 20 years. I have worked with fellow artists, makers, and educators through arts organizations, a STEAM education organization, and art and children’s museums. I call this group of people Creative Entrepreneurs and found that they all have varying needs and skills when it comes to their own enterprises. While many small business resources are helpful to Creative Entrepreneurs, they aren’t quite tailored to creatives’ needs.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career in art officially started as a paid gig when I taught art camps in college and followed with teaching art in public schools to elementary and middle school students. After a move to an area where full time art teaching positions were scarce, I began teaching with an arts organization where I gained wonderful experiences with music, theater and dance educators. Through collaborating on larger projects with that arts organization and then later with a STEAM education organization, I was able to hone my maker skills and understand the special niche that creative entrepreneurs inhabit.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would absolutely start an itinerary with food, but I’m not sure what that says about me as an artist! We have a bakery nearby called Moxie and that would be the first stop for kouign-amanns. They are croissant pastries that are made even more special because baking at high altitude can be very challenging. My next stop would definitely be the Denver Art Museum as the building itself is an experience. The Denver area is full of natural art and one of my all-time favorite places is Eldorado Canyon. It’s a rock climbing paradise but I still get so much out of being surrounded by rock faces even as a non-climber. There are so many other landmarks and special sites but these are the things I wouldn’t want a friend to miss.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have a hard time singling out a specific group or person that has led to my successes and while it may be the most common answer, I really couldn’t have found my way without the constant encouragement from my parents. They supported my interests in art, dance, and music when I was young and continue to be my biggest cheerleaders in my adult endeavors.
