Meet Breahna Whitehair | local Denver potter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Breahna Whitehair and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breahna, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always had an artistic desire. Creating, whether it be with paints, collage, pottery, welding, wood etc. has always brought me joy. I come from a creative family with a low risk attitude. That being said, I never really thought pottery was an option for me, what with the start up costs, space for equipment and so on. After 10 years of having something missing in my life, I decided to take the plunge and go for pottery. I have not regretted a single purchase or decision regarding art since. Why? Because it brings me and others so much joy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Finding a way to incorporate drawing, painting, and collage into pottery has been so exciting! Adding minimalistic line drawings to my work accompanied by brightly colored glaze combinations let’s my creative visions come to life. I’ve found inspiration from the pottery community in Denver and my many inspirations from Instagram friends. Finding ideas I love and then creating something new and my own is very fulfilling. Opening the final kiln load is such a rush of excitement that will continue each and every time.
It’s so satisfying to be able to create what I love and what brings me joy and that also brings others joy!
This year I’m taking time to focus on local markets. The new member of the Mile High Mud family is my newly redone, bright peach gypsy wagon. Her name is The Mile High Mo-Mobile (momo means peach in Japanese). She will be making her debut at the Horseshoe Market on June 12th. I’m so excited to show her cuteness along with my hand crafted pottery to the world this summer at pop up markets.
One day I hope to quit my full time day job and make my passion for pottery my full time career.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Born and raised in Colorado, I’m not usually one for crowds. My favorite spot to go out is definitely Edgewater. They have niche thai food, pubs, breakfast, and just opened the public marketplace with shops, food and bars. Walk around Sloan’s lake for some after dinner exercise- I’m in! I also like hiking. Get some quick cardio in golden at north table top. Or head into the hills for some mountainous hiking. Colorado has pretty much all you need for a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I recognize that the majority of my success comes from my fathers support. He has been a huge encouragement and inspiration my whole life. My dad started inspiring me in high school to take ceramics as he did at my age. Since then, the love for clay has only deepened! Most of all he showed his support by opening up his large shop for my creative space. Without that, I would have not been able to pursue my dream.
My mother has been a huge help as well. She loves to glaze with me, which is so much help! She is supportive in going to markets with me, taking trips to the supply stores and being my go to wine partner.
Lastly, my husband has been a huge support in time and work. He has helped me remodel my gypsy wagon for markets, always ready to go on Craigslist supply trips to keep me from being kidnapped and most of all being ok with the time I spend at the shop. The most unselfish person I know is my husband and I definitely couldn’t pursue my artistic path without his love and support.
