Meet Genae Horton | CEO and Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Genae Horton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genae, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I would consider myself as being more strategic than risky. I often overthink things considering the possible risks and consequences. However, when it came to starting my own business, I was willing to risk everything because the worst case scenario would have been I would have to go back to working for someone. This season in my life is probably one of the most if not the most risk I have ever experienced.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the first Black Woman owned Title Company in Colorado and 3rd nationally that I can Google. I just happened upon the Title Industry and have been in it for 25 years. As a minority in this industry I was almost always the only Black person in many rooms and it was not easy at first and a bit intimidating until I realized I am great at what I do and I have value to add. I learned that people and companies will do what is best for them and the business and the team of people building it, are usually last on the list. As an Employer I strive to be different and let my Employees know they are valued and no one gets to the top alone, so I embrace what they bring to the table that helps us grow! They matter! In creating a brand for the company it is important to make sure we create an experience for our clients because these are not just transactions but a major part of people’s lives and the value has to be acknowledged. In an effort to do this we offer celebratory toast and picture magnets to capture their special moment while maintaining top level of communication from the beginning to the end of each transaction.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lately I am almost all business and very little play. This is an area that I am intentionally working on changing. Tea time somewhere would be on the list followed by some dancing lessons because I love to dance! We would try some of the mom and pop restaurants providing reviews amongst one another and because I am fancy inside we would have to go to at least one fancy restaurant. We would also have to go downtown Denver and walk the 16th Street Mall and if time permits a visit to the smash room and escape room would top it all off!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly believe that God allowed my increase in faith to be the stepping stone of my business. My Daughter planted the seed of Mom you can do it! My mother gave the company’s first $10k of seed money. My best friend has jumped in and been a Jack of trades for literally anything I have needed, no questions asked! One of my good friends shared her story and encouraged me to embody my vision, taste it, see it, smell it! The book Yes referred to me by a fellow Realtor helped me to continue my journey with enthusiasm and gratitude! My Village has encouraged supported and rallied around me to continue to cheer me on! I am very grateful for my circle!
