We had the good fortune of connecting with Michaila Jensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michaila, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I just love photography, it is something I’m passionate about & that sparked MLJ Photography. I am a stay at home mom and Military wife so I needed something that could be done on my time, & also move with me as my husband’s job required. My passion for taking nature photos and editing grew into a passion for graphics therefore leading to the creation of MLJ Innovative Design. Now I am the owner of MLJ Photography – nature and abstract stock photos & MLJ Innovative Design – custom digital and physical items.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started working with design programs when I was 14 now with over 10 years of practice under my belt I have learned so much, yet I know there is still more to learn so I am always looking for ways to better my profession. I have learned to double and triple check to always make sure it is exactly how I want it to look. I am most proud of the fact that I can make customers vision come to life with custom products at MLJ Innovative Design. Im most excited about sharing the world through my eyes via stock photos at MLJ Photography.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend up Pikes Peak and just sit and soak in the view as far as the eye could see, followed by a hike to a peaceful waterfall! I would have them over at our house for a home cooked meal most likely something my husband smoked on the smoker, relax by the lake, & check out some local coffee shops! Another thing we can’t miss is the Colorado wildlife, I would love to take them to go watch for some!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Michael for always being supportive of my photography and design business. My parents for teaching me everything I needed to use as a adult – Dad, for teaching me the financial side of things & Mom for teaching me the creative side. & My brothers and close friends for being sounding boards for design ideas.
