We had the good fortune of connecting with Genevieve Mckay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Genevieve, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My initial thought process was to find a industry where I could align my core values and life purpose with a lucrative compensation plan. I was a new mom to two kids, the newest child, born with a congenital heart defect. He was rushed to the OR immediately after birth for open heart surgery. Fast forward to his homecoming, 74 days later, we brought home a very sick infant. I always wanted to be a stay at home mom but now, mounting medical debt would require me to be a work from home mom. That’s when I pivoted to start a business that aligned with our family values and my life purpose. When faced with a T in the road, I chose me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
You could say my elevator pitch is that I love to help women who feel stagnant with their personal style, find themselves again. I hope to give solutions to the woman who desires to look and feel their best. While I sell jewelry, my business is cultivating relationships with customers and hostesses through a party platform and then providing solutions to give them a leg up in the morning. I have created a Fashion Formula to eradicate wardrobe fatigue, and with the help of my direct sales business, I am able to accessorize them with hundreds of dollars of jewelry for nearly free. It’s amazing to witness how jewelry and a little time can truly change someones self confidence and their entire demeanor.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My idea of a perfect girls day would be to first get brunch. We couldn’t accomplish much on a empty stomach, I’m italian for crying out loud! I would love to do whatever my friend wanted to do then, as I really enjoying supporting other peoples desires. You could say I am a people pleaser, but seeing them happy makes me happy. I would enjoy a solid hour or two at a local art museum followed by happy hour with some vino. Good conversation and enjoying the beauty around is always refreshing to the soul. A little retail therapy never hurts tho!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a shadow of a doubt my mother. I was witness to her life transform because of the direct sales industry. She herself had 4 children and my father was a hair stylist. Money was always tight and the hours they worked were long. Yet she took a chance on herself to launch a business in direct sales when she had my youngest sister. The need for her to be a present mom and get her out of the salon ultimately crafted her into her true calling. She flew up the ranks, grew a large team and become a national speaker. From age 7 until I signed my contract into the business, I found myself yearning to be just like her. A woman of time management, eloquent public speaking, a friend to everyone and the most important, a mom who never missed a thing. Ballet lessons, tennis matches, ski trips, school musicals, spelling bees, field trips.. she never missed a moment because this industry gave her the freedom to do so. Without watching her evolve over my childhood, I would probably be in a much different scenario.
