We had the good fortune of connecting with Gertie Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gertie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind both my success and Fireside’s success is our unwavering commitment to consistency. Delivering high-quality work for all of our clients is something we have full control over, and it’s a key factor that can make or break a small agency like Fireside. As a young woman in business, leading a team that’s 80% women, I’m keenly aware that our work is often held to a higher standard. That means we don’t have the luxury of not showing up every day and giving it our absolute best. I’m incredibly proud of my team for not only meeting those high standards but for consistently raising the bar and staying on top of market trends to take us to new heights.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Fireside at Five is a community-driven marketing, branding, & events agency that empowers placemaking-centric brands to intentionally connect with their consumers through digital tactics and IRL activations. It all started in 2020 during the pandemic when we began facilitating intimate, solution-driven, industry happy hour Chats with passionates and professionals throughout Denver… we’ve come a long way from that, but those were our humble beginnings.
So, what can our clients and partners expect from working with us? An innovative and collaborative approach to amplify their best qualities and create experiences that foster connection. Our values-led marketing and placemaking strategies provide clients with authentic and intentional brand recognition, an expanded network to forge partnership opportunities, and a variety of avenues to connect with engaged consumers.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love this question. Here are my favorite places to take out-of-towners:
For attractions, I’d say scoping out Red Rocks for a show or hike, walking through the Denver Botanic Gardens, exploring the Dairy Block Alley, taking a bike ride to one of the farmer’s markets in town, hitting up a First Friday on Santa Fe (if dates align), or strolling through RiNo Art District and scoping out the murals / bars + restaurants. If it’s the middle of winter, we’re heading up to the mountains to ski + enjoy some aprés.
If we’re talking food + drink, I’d be hitting up Hop Alley, ESP HiFi, Brasserie Brixton, Ginger Pig, El Five, Leven Deli, Temaki Den, Cart Driver, Death & Co, Noble Riot, Mister Oso, Hudson Hill, Ratio, and Embassy Tavern.
If we’re going out, I’d say we head to a show at Mission Ballroom, Zodiac House, or 1134 to dance it out. I’m really into house, and Denver has one of the best house scenes in the country!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, I can’t narrow it down to just one, so this shoutout is dedicated to everyone who has supported me and Fireside over the past four years. That includes friends and family who have sent encouraging messages, showed up at events, or shared advice; vendors and partners who have collaborated with us and pushed us to new creative heights; clients and employees who have understood the assignment, trusted the vision, and helped bring passion projects to life. It’s incredible how many people have contributed to Fireside’s success and been part of this journey. Thank you for believing in what we’re doing and keeping us motivated and hungry for more!
