We had the good fortune of connecting with Gigi Bisong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gigi, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
It would have to be my commitment to my purpose, my soul work and choosing not to let the mainstream culture raise my vision or business, yet to be connected to my roots and ancestral knowledge.
Also getting clear on how I define success. It can be easy to measure oneself by other people’s version of success but I had to get clear on what success looks and feels like to me. The moment I went along my path of success is when I started to feel successful. Earlier on in my adult life I was striving for perfection, trying to obtain other peoples validation and trying to follow other people. But it was when I realized that I wasn’t created to be a carbon copy of any one else that life started to flow differently. I started to find my genius, I started to trust my intuition, I started to value my uniqueness.
For me true success is not diluting my energy or numbing out my emotions or shaming my unique expressions. I feel all of the above allows me to tap into the depths of wisdom I hold and to create from such truth. This is when I can speak directly and clearly to an audience of folks who have a similar soul as mine. If I did my work so concerned with being like everyone else I would mis the mark and would be too generic to truly make an impact on anyone.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a storyteller, speaker and a coach. I use meditation as a way to bring healing to my clients and audience. My meditations come to me during moments of creating intimacy with my emotions. My biggest gift is my body and my relationship to my souls messages. These become the core of my speeches, my teachings, meditations and curriculum.
I got to where I am today by not letting fear or uncertain times get in the way. I started my speaking career by trusting my inner nudge and being so afraid but doing it any way. This has always unfold my next journey. Trusting every nudge and intuition. The right people seem to show up and see something in me. I have come to realize that I must trust the process. Sometimes things take a pause and this is my time to slow down and to hear the wisdoms even in the pause. I might desire for my business to look a certain way but usually that is my perfectionism speaking. If I am true to my vision I do not need it to perform for me. Yet, I stay dedicated to it and honor it. Which means honoring the moments when the business might need rest and creating a sacred relationship with it. If I see it as a purpose their should be great honor. This has been the most significant impact in how I relate to my business and how it has continued to grow.
Right now my biggest body of work is my birthing a vision course and my membership for female visionaries and business owners. I believe we split off from who we really are to become who we think we need to be in order to get that love. But as a child is yearning for the whole mother to show up. The soul of her – the higher self of her. Our visions are asking the same. They are asking for the “whole of us”, “the soul of us”, the higher self that we hold to parent it. This is what the course does. It also provides a village for each womens business. Because yes, it takes a village to raise a child but it also takes a village to raise a vision into it’s maturity so I have created these memberships to village one anothers visions. We need way more support as visionaries and its imperative for us to have others that can mirror back to us the power that we hold.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would for sure take them to the stone arch bridge and maybe stop at the farmers market. Enjoy some fresh coffee and walking over to my favorite coffee shop over the stone arch bridge to Almas. For more coffee of course and some delicious pastries.
I then would grab a hammock and a book and find a couple of trees at lake nokomis to get some sun and relax time.
At night I would head to the hewing rooftop for drinks and to edwards dessert bar for the most gorgeous desserts ever!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Jeremiah Program was my first experience of community of what if meant to have a village support you and your child. I also want to thank my family and close friends for their continued support. Sussana Barkataki for her mentorship and encouragement in my business when I needed it most.
