We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina DiChiaro Dodd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Make Someone Happy was inspired by our dad, Carmine, He was a kind, sweet-natured man who found great joy in helping others, and truly lived his motto to ‘make someone happy’. He had a zest for life, a sunny sense of humor and an uplifting spirit. His story embodies our message, and he became, naturally, the identity of Make Someone Happy. We are simply an extension of his spirit: to inspire others to share a simple smile, to help a neighbor in need, and to do the small things every day to make others happy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the founder of Make Someone Happy which is a family business. I am also a VP in the retail division of TTEC and work with national retailers to help them provide their customers with the best possible experiences as they interact with their brands. There is a common thread between the two which is to make others happy. I find hard work and meeting challenges very satisfying. I hope that people will be inspired by the way my dad lived his life and always tried to make others happy. Happiness is found in selflessness and doing for others instead of focusing on ourselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Visit Boston’s North End which is known for its Italian heritage, great restaurants and bakeries. The vibe is fun and it’s great to walk through the small lively streets while eating a delicious cannoli. Newbury Street in back bay is filled with beautiful shops and restaurants. Don’t miss the Museum of Fine Arts, JFK Library, or Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Walk the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail which tells the story of the American Revolution. Get tickets for Fenway Park for a Red Sox game and TD Garden for an exciting Celtics or Bruins game. Have fun!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad is the inspiration for Make Someone Happy and his inspiration was Jesus. His Catholic faith formed him into the man he was. Kind, sweet, humble, pure in heart -and fun are some of the adjectives that best describe him. St. Therese of Lisieux is also an inspiration. She was called the “little flower” and taught that holiness is found in small daily sacrifices instead of great deeds.
