We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Power and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first started my business, my husband worked out of town and we had no children or pets so I was able to devote all of my time and energy into my business. We did take a 2 week vacation and I remember it feeling like much too long to be away from the business. I may have been a work-a-holic but I loved it. I worked on holidays and I rarely saw my family. I didn’t work out or eat well either. Twenty years later, I have a 9 year old son, whom I homeschool, and my husband works from home so I can’t devote as much time or energy to the business. We also have a dog, a turtle and a bird that require attention. I work out regularly with a trainer who also has also helped me create a more balanced diet. I can’t work the 80+ hours I used to, however, I’ve expanded into 4 businesses along with selling products and trainings online. I keep hiring people to help. I also hire organizers, cleaning people, interior decorators and handymen. I find that by keeping organized, it helps me feel more balanced. Meditation and visualization practises help me to keep intention on creating a balanced life with family, friends, vacations, health and education.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think the hardest part of building my business has been the naysayers, especially the ones I live with. Their negativity and doubt has been the hardest part of striving for greatness and achieving my dreams. Of course I have my own doubts and insecurities so when those around me don’t believe in me or are scared of losing money, it is very draining. However, somehow I just muscle through it and keep my mind focused on winning. Even though I think I could have achieved more without their negativity, maybe in some strange way it made me fight harder and build my business to the place it is today. Currently I have 4 salons in 3 states where I offer my unique products and services. I also sell products online and offer trainings so other salons can expand with my products which include sugaring, skin lightening, vadazzle and magnetic eyelashes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In downtown Denver, my favorite place is Tattered Cover Bookstore. They also have a coffee bar, so I would bring my friend there for some coffee and book browsing. I used to live in Belmar so I would definitly take my friend there to shop and stop at WholeFoods for some fresh produce. Boulder would be the next stop. There are some great hiking trails and of course we could head over to Pearl Street for lunch and browse the shops. I also lived in Evergreen and they have a great spa there, Sacred Stone Day Spa, where we could stop for a deep tissue massage. Before the end of our trip, I’d have to take my friend to My Gold Sugar in Golden for some sugaring, lash tint and a spray tan.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One book that definitely had a major impact was Secrets to the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker. I also attended his 3 day seminar in Denver that had an obvious impact on my subconscious. Shortly after, I hired a business coach Nigel Clayton. One day he asked me why I wanted to be a millionaire and one reason I stated was so that I could work out with a personal trainer. He asked if I could do that now and I realized I could. I didn’t have to wait. I went down to the gym and hired a trainer. I started losing inches and gaining muscle and feeling great. Over the years I have moved and had to find other trainers. About 6 years ago I found Marine Sebire. She not only helped me with fitness but has also helped me with my diet. About 4 years ago, I asked if she would be my life coach too. We meet once a week for a coaching session, and she’s definitly been instrumental in helping me expand my goals and reach my goals while keeping home and work life balance.
