We had the good fortune of connecting with Graig Kreindler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Graig, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When it comes down to the success of my brand–the kind of artwork that I do–I think the most important factor is passion. I’m incredibly lucky in that I very much enjoy what I do for a living, and if I won the lottery tomorrow and didn’t have to work another day in my life, I’d still be painting baseball players. To me, I think there’s some sort of tangible (and sometimes intangible) thing that goes into a job you’re doing if you’re passionate about it in some way. And I think that’s something that becomes apparent and attractive to others. My passion for the subject matter is what drives the art to the level that it needs to be at. The meticulous accuracy I strive for, or the kind of finish I want my paintings to have–it’s all because I need to do justice to the history of the game, and I feel like in the past 15 years, I’ve worked myself into a very unique position to try and do so. I now have the opportunity to be prolific, both in how much I produce, but also in my presence. Without that passion, none of this would be possible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My award-winning sports work has appeared in juried shows and museums across the United States, and has been featured in nationally-distributed books, newspapers, magazines, and has been the focus of featurettes on the Internet and television.

To me, no other sport embodies the relationship between generations and the sense of community like baseball. My goal is to portray the national pastime in an era when players were accessibly human, and the atmosphere of a welcoming ballpark was just as important as what happened on the field. I’m proud to act as a visual historian, recreating a history that he has never experienced, yet, like millions of fans, maintains a profound connection with.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big shoutout to all of the living artists who have shaped me into what I am today, especially the great Peter Fiore. Also, big ups to my agent, Dean Lombardo. And probably most important, all the love from my parents, wife, and children, without whom, none of this would have been possible.
