We had the good fortune of connecting with Greth Ligon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Greth, why did you pursue a creative career?
Creativity has been a big part of my life ever since I was little. I started drawing at a very young age, and throughout life have always been very drawn to making art in various forms. Essentially it just feels like getting to express myself through music and art is an important part of my identity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My creative and professional journey has been very colorful, and at times chaotic. While perhaps it would be smart to stick with one endeavor and get really good at that one thing, I’m driven to explore a lot of different mediums. I’ve worked professionally creating music for films and other media, was a vocalist for a number of bands, I continue to work as a freelance photographer, I’ve been a gallery artist, graphic designer, a sound designer for a cartoon series, a voice actor (and a single time as an on screen actor).
While I am a bit of a restless soul, I still very much love just spending time alone writing and recording music. That hasn’t changed in the last twenty some years.
For much of my life I have struggled with anxiety and depression, and I have yet to overcome those issues. But those can be fuel for creative output, and I’m lucky to have those outlets to channel those feelings. Generally I feel very lucky to live the life I’ve been given, and things have continued to become more interesting,
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Much of this theoretical itinerary would involve visiting restaurants. Colorado has so much great authentic Mexican food, pizza, sushi, Thai, Vietnamese. . .
I actually haven’t been to Meow Wolf yet, but maybe it’s time for a trip there.
Maybe a few concerts in Denver and Fort Collins, some standup comedy at Comedy Works and the Comedy Fort.
And I always enjoy seeing the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at the Boettcher Concert Hall, which is an absolutely phenomenal orchestra.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel that I’m able to live the life that I have because of the continued love and support of my family.
