We had the good fortune of connecting with GUILLAUME LINOSSIER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi GUILLAUME, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As someone passionate about sports and the environment, I spent over 15 years in the outdoor industry. Over time, I grew frustrated with the gap between brand messaging and real action on sustainability. That led me to start SAOLA, with a clear mission: to innovate in sustainable manufacturing and support NGOs focused on wildlife conservation. The goal was simple—use business as a force for good and prove that responsibility and style can go hand in hand.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets SAOLA apart is our commitment to making sustainability accessible, stylish, and real. We focus on innovative, eco-friendly materials—from recycled plastics to vegan leather made out of grapes. We are constantly exploring new ways to reduce our footprint. At the same time, we support environmental NGOs doing crucial work in wildlife conservation.

I’m most proud of building a brand that aligns with my values—and hopefully inspires others to think differently about the impact of what they wear.
It definitely hasn’t been easy. Starting a footwear brand from scratch, especially with a focus on sustainability, comes with a steep learning curve.
There were supply chain challenges, design problems and MANY moments of doubt. But I’ve learned that persistence, a strong team, and staying true to your mission make all the difference.

If there’s one thing I want people to know, it’s that SAOLA isn’t just about shoes—it’s about showing that every business, no matter the size, has the power to be a force for good.”**

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
“If my best friend was visiting, I’d take them to Annecy—hands down. It’s where I was born, and it’s also where SAOLA’s European office is based. It’s this incredible town in the French Alps, right on a crystal-clear lake and surrounded by mountains. Honestly, it’s hard to beat.

We’d spend the week soaking in everything the area has to offer—bike rides around the lake, hikes in the nearby mountains, long lunches with local wine, and probably a swim or paddleboard session in the lake. There’s a great mix of nature, local culture, and that relaxed alpine vibe.

We’d definitely hit up a few local spots for fondue or tartiflette, wander through the Old Town, and grab drinks by the water as the sun sets. It’s the kind of place where you can do a lot—or do nothing—and still have the best time.

Annecy is a special place to me, and every time someone visits, they get why. It’s a perfect mix of inspiration, adventure, and good living

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could not have built SAOLA alone. I’ve been lucky to have a super supportive circle, especially my family. Their belief in me, especially during those early startup days, really gave me the push to keep going.

Professionally, I’ve learned a ton from mentors and people I worked with during my 15+ years in the outdoor industry. But I’ve also been hugely inspired by leaders like Yvon Chouinard from Patagonia, who’s always stayed true to his values, and brands like Picture Organic Clothing that are challenging the norms and showing that you can do business differently.

Their example helped shape SAOLA’s mission—to innovate sustainably and support real environmental change. So this shoutout goes to all the changemakers out there proving that purpose and profit can go hand in hand.”**
