We had the good fortune of connecting with Habibi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Habibi, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve always been a rather play it safe kind of individual. I usually view things with logical weight. Yet, when I decided to do music, I knew it was a risk. I figured that with the right determination, work ethic, and perseverance I would see it come to fruition. Risks are inevitable, but only when you take them can you earn great rewards. That’s my philosophy in this process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Beginning in music it was really difficult to say in simple terms. I worked really hard to get my voice right and shape myself to the person I wanted to be. I think the most difficult aspect to it was trying to keep the dream alive. I was facing all sorts of bumps in the road for a long time while I was in pursuit of it. I’m proud of I’ve kept the determination of keeping the dream alive for this long. I’ve learned that truly it is only you that is in control of your path and you can’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it. Your human capability is set by you, and if you feel like you can do more odds are that you can do twice that. As for how do I want the world to view my brand I want the world to perceive my music, my art, as the next renaissance. The industry has kept everything so cookie cutter. I want my music to serve like a catalyst of a movement. That’s why I chose the name Habibi it means my love in Arabic and I think we should bring back the love and peace that music can supply.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado truly is a place of many. We have the Sand Dune‘s and we have beautiful areas like Telluride and Crested Butte that provide beautiful views if you’re just hoping to get away from the city. Personally I reside in Denver, we could probably go to crave which is a nice Middle Eastern restaurant. I know that there’s a lot of great art galleries here, in Rino and Santa Fe. I would probably also try to catch a local artist show. They do really great and perform with their heart and it really does make for a great night! I suppose it really does depend on what they’re looking for because Colorado truly has fun everywhere, in each city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, I would give the credit to few different people. My cousins, who showed me this music genre, and supported me to express myself. Also, Muslims around the world who consistently persevere in the face of injustice and blind eyes. Viewing this inequality as a Muslim made this much more of reason to push harder in this business. We need a voice.
