We had the good fortune of connecting with Hailey Van Wormer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hailey, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk has been a huge part of my life, both personally and professionally, for as long as I can remember.
Choosing to be an entrepreneur means bringing risk into your everyday life, and to do it well, you must learn to face risk consistently without letting it deter you.
Regardless of your career path, I don’t think there is a way to escape risk. In fact, I believe risk presents an incredible opportunity, and with great risk comes great reward. As long as you’re willing to learn from your failures and risk in general and approach it with the right mindset, then really it’s just an opportunity.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder of WrenPro Consulting, a digital marketing and website development agency that specializes in long-term growth strategies for medium and large-sized businesses.
When I first started my company, I was filling a much-needed gap in an already saturated industry. Marketing is constantly changing, and has become more and more convoluted, making it harder for companies to succeed without a dedicated marketing team, or expert marketer in their back pocket. I started working with brands, big and small, many of which had not-so-great experiences with marketing agencies in the past. I made it my mission to remain 100% transparent, and explain the WHY, the how, and the data behind our work. Over six years later, that transparency and dedication continues to drive the company and our team.
Fun fact: I named my company after the wren. On the surface, wrens are small, generic, everyday brown birds. But the truth is, they are badass little creatures. In proportion to their size, the wren has the loudest song of any bird. They are fierce little birds with the kind of confidence, fearlessness, and determination that we want to exemplify – and the characteristics that describe many of our clients.
Starting my business, and doing things very differently from other agencies, wasn’t (and isn’t) easy. But, I have always been the type of person who decides what I want, sets a vision for myself, and won’t stop until I have reached my end goal (remember that whole thing about loving to take risks?). Aside from the common challenges of growing a business – COVID, finding great employees, etc – one area that has been particularly challenging is sustainable growth. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of new clients, increased revenue, and for me, new marketing tactics + optimizations (marketing nerd-alert). The same goes for marketing efforts – it’s so easy to implement a handful of ‘quick wins’ that deliver short-term growth. While they are exciting and give off a quick hit of dopamine, I keep my eye on the long-term – for my company, and for my clients. I have made it a point to focus on sustainable growth, to ensure that our team is happy and that we grow at a rate that makes sense both for our clients and our team.
I continue to learn new lessons about life and my business, but I would say that one of the biggest lessons that I have learned is: the more focused and niched-down you are in business, the better. Also, regardless of whether you’re a business that works with an agency, or you do your marketing in-house, my biggest piece of advice is to always, always, always have a third-party data tool, like Google Analytics, to track your results. Google Analytics is a free tool, so it’s 100% worth setting it up if you haven’t already.
Going forward, we’re really excited to launch our online marketing courses. There are so many small businesses that need marketing support but aren’t yet in a spot where they can build a dedicated marketing team or hire an agency. We’re actively building out a series of courses to teach those businesses how to succeed in the ever-changing world of marketing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are SO many beautiful places to visit, amazing experiences to have, and delicious food to eat. It’s challenging to narrow it down, but here are a few favorites I would try to get in:
I would definitely take a day trip to Estes Park. On the way there, we’d stop for a piece of homemade pie at the Colorado Cherry Company (hiking sustenance, of course) and then go for a hike at Rocky Mountain National Park.
We’d also add going to Romero’s in Lafayette, because, dogs and beer. Does it get any better?
Rooftop cocktails (with an amazing view) at Corrida in downtown Boulder is a must.
A food and cocktail stroll along Pearl Street would absolutely be on my list. We’d stop by the Kitchen Upstairs for an appetizer and handcrafted cocktail, Piece, Love, and Chocolate for a sweet treat, and Oak for just about anything on their menu.
Lastly, we’d go to Palisade for a couple of days to do a wine tour (or two, or three), and go rafting. The road trip views alone are worth the trip to Palisade!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here without my family. My sister taught me to take risks (even if she is more calculated than I am) and my parents taught me that hard work, dedication, and persistence can lead to success, and if they don’t, you will learn a hell of a lot in the process. Lastly, and arguably most importantly, my four-legged family members have helped me through the best, and most challenging times.
