We had the good fortune of connecting with Rajan Shankara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rajan, what inspires you?
I’m motivated by the constant need for chaos-transformation. As a mystic and performance coach, my life is designed to test what I previously thought real and valid. I am motivated by extremes, potential failure or success of my next project. We become truly happy when we learn that our life takes place at the intersection of danger and anomaly.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a performance and cognitive specialist—a type of coach for the mind. My clients range from executives and CEOs managing large teams and institutions, to university students trying to figure out their life amidst the chaos of youth. To be frank, I’m quite proud of the amount of dedication I’ve put in to my practice. The education, study and reflection it takes to successfully and positively alter someone’s mind must be vast. And this is not a field to take lightly. Which is why I’ve undergone 12 years at the world’s finest institution for the mind, Himalayan Academy in Kauai, HI. None of this was easy, and it should not have been. Anything permanent and worthwhile should be extremely difficult to endure and persevere through. The very challenge that the student goes through must be lived through in order for a teacher to one day blossom. A teacher without direct experience will be unable to reach the student, and it will be difficult for the student to identify with the teacher. One of the greatest lessons learned along the way is one of responsibility. A book I’ve wrote recently, called Everything is Your Fault, is a culmination of the greatest takeaway from my research thus far. To own every situation, experience and happening in your life as if you are the sole owner of it—the good and the bad—will return the power dynamic back to yourself. We can only be in control of our life, and able to change anything we want, if we’re responsible for what is and will happen to us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Tattered Cover book store is a gem hiding away from prying eyes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance from the book Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. This shoutout is not just for the author, but for the concept of Musashi, the idea that a soul can rise from the depths of hell and become one with the universe speaks to the longing found in all of us.
