We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Lucero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Haley, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I knew growing up that I always wanted to have art involved with my career. I had never been successful sitting at my desk doing work, and over time realized that creativity is one of my strong suits and wanted to have a career for myself that gave me the freedom to create that also gave me a steady income. It wasn’t until my cousin became a hairstylist where I realized I could go into a field and use my creativity to help people feel like themselves visually with hair.
What should our readers know about your business?
Growing up in a community that wasn’t as free or expressive was really challenging for me, and I realized when I wanted to pursue doing hair as my career, I wanted to curate an authentic experience for my clients where they can 100% be themselves in my chair and create healthy beautiful hair that matches their beauty from within. I can say it was a hard journey to get to where I am today, I learned that in the hair industry, mistakes are the best lessons, and be comfortable with being uncomfortable. When we stop pushing ourselves to be better artists, we don’t grow. You have to put in the work to get to where you want to be, but also try to find that great work life balance so you don’t burn yourself out.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love going to the Denver art museum and walking around seeing the seasonal exhibits they have to offer! I also love going to fun spots off of broadway and supporting local businesses! I love going to max’s gill and grill off of wash park too! Their lobster rolls and pain killers are the best!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate a lot of my success to my mentors in my life. First coming out of school I connected with Amanda Harsche from forma collective in Denver a few years back and I owe that woman so much of my knowledge. She took me in under her wing and has shaped me into the artist I am today. My mentors at Origins Salon Colorado also helped shape my craft with endless education opportunities. The owners of the salon helped appoint me as a brand ambassador for Redken as well which is crazy to me still
