We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Shreves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Haley, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success so far has been my love for photography. The satisfaction I get when I am able to freeze some of the most meaningful moments in a person’s life is what drives me to run a successful business. Without that passion, I don’t know that I would be where I am today. Much of what I have achieved so far has been through trial and error and I’ve learned to embrace change with gratitude and treat each experience as an opportunity for growth.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I pride myself on telling a story through pictures. In any session that I do, from newborns to weddings to seniors, my number one goal is to capture the feeling. It’s a shift in mentality from “Oh I have to make sure I get this specific pose at this specific time” to “I have to make sure that I am telling this couple’s/family’s/person’s story in an authentic, genuine way.” It took a lot of adjusting to get to my current perspective on photography and it wasn’t easy but I wouldn’t have changed anything about the path that brought me here. I found myself getting stuck on the idea that I had to be doing what everyone else was doing a lot of the time and once I started pushing back on that narrative, I opened the creative floodgates. That allowed me to create a brand that is centered around idiosyncratic, timeless photography and fueled by passion.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge foodie so my first, second, and last stop will always be food related. I’d start with one of my favorite breakfast spots in Denver, either Bacon Social House or Denver Biscuit Company. Depending on the season, we’d either spend the day exploring the city or head up to the mountains. For dinner, we’d have to hit up one of my favorite spots in Colorado, Cafe Terracotta in Downtown Littleton. Finally, to cap off the night, we’d head out Downtown to Milk Market or RiNo for drinks. The best thing about Colorado is that there is something for everyone. No matter what you are into, Denver has it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family, friends, and everyone that has lifted me up or been by my side on this journey. The love and support I have felt is unparalleled. Truly, I can’t thank my loved ones enough.
